A/N: Before we start, I would just like to thank my beta readers for making this chapter vastly better now than it was in its original form. Now I ask myself how I even managed to write this story without any beta readers before. Anyway, without further ado: the chapter.

Chapter 6

Arc 3 Part 1

It's been a few weeks since the witch beasts' (attempted) invasion. Subaru, clearly knowing that he can't clean for shit, has decided to mainly do the chores that allow him to go to the village and the chores that allow him to use sharp objects. He's very proficient at those.

It was just another day in Arlam village with the adults working their asses off and the children crowdinh around Subaru. The man used his Infinity to give the illusion that his glasses were floating between both his hands.

He grinned as the children stared in awe of his 'magic' trick. Every time Subaru had to go down to the village, he always did something for tha kids. He went to pick up supplies but the children pestered him to show them his 'magic' until he relented. To be honest, Subaru doesn't hate it. I mean, he is indeed just and average person, after all. Average people can do magic tricks, right?

But today was a bit special because Emilia decided to accompany him to the village. She smiled under her hood when she sees how well Subaru gets along with the children. Of course, she did feel jealous. Emilia wished she could have that kind of relationship with them. The entire village basically viewed Subaru as their savior. While they viewed her as a monster purely because of her physical similarities to the Witch of Envy.

"Thanks to you, the village seems to be full of life again," Emilia said, seeing how happy the villagers were whenever Subaru visits.

"Well, I did risk my life to save them and all that,"Subaru said, scratching his cheek. His reply made Emilia roll her eyes.

"That's a bit of an exaggeration." Emilia deadpanned at this. He didn't exactly risk his life for the village. He utterly decimated everything hostile in that forest without breaking a sweat.

The silver-haired Half-elf was still blown away by that power of his and those eyes- no. Stop it. Emilia shook her head to stop the onslaught of thoughts about those beautiful eyes.

"Emilia-sama, there are guests at the entrance." A voice suddenly came from behind the pair. Emilia turned to see that it was Ram.

Both Emilia and Subaru nodded and made their way to the front of the Mathers mansion.

"Welcome home. Please forgive me for parking in front of your mansion." An old man in a butler outfit standing in front of a carriage greeted them.

Wilhelm Van Astrea has arrived.

"An emissary from the Capital has arrived. Roswaal-sama is attending to them now." Ram told her.

"An emissary?" Emilia asked in alarm.

"Yes, I believe it concerns the Royal Selection."

Emilia looked worried at this, which Subaru noticed.

"Must be important, huh? Do your best, Emilia-tan!" Subaru smiled and gave her a thumbs up.

Emilia could feel her cheeks heat up at this show of support but still smiled back, "Yes, of course."

She followed Ram back into the mansion to meet this emissary.

Subaru put his hands in his pockets and then looked at Wilhelm, who was peacefully standing by the carriage. Subaru was curious, wondering why the visitors had come. He then got an idea and teleported away.
