(Kaito's POV)

"Kai-toh, would you loik anotha bis-kit?" Rin asked in a very exaggerated British accent.

I grinned and held out my tiny plate. "Yes please."

"Here you go, dah-ling," said Miku, handing me a plastic little burger patty.

Along with doing manicures, having posh tea parties with the toy food from their old play kitchen was a favorite of the Megurine children. Actually, it was something we did quite often.

The kids finally had their first week of the school year, so I didn't have to watch them in the mornings anymore. This was a Thursday afternoon, and it was one I'd never forget.

Once we finished (got bored of) our tea party, we decided to watch some TV. Luka and Meiko would be home soon, so I decided it would be best not to make a big mess right now.

I heard the doorbell ring, so I went up to the door and checked out the peephole. I didn't recognize the man standing outside, so as long as I didn't answer, maybe he would think nobody was home. I started to walk away when the doorbell rang again, so I went back and answered it.

It was so bizarre how the man on the porch seemed familiar, but I couldn't recall ever meeting him. "Is this the Megurine household?"

"Who's asking?" I was mildly suspicious of him.

He shifted his weight from one foot to the other in a fashion that was almost awkward. "I'm a friend of Luka's."

"Oh!" I said, opening the door a bit wider. "I don't think we've been introduced. I'm guessing you work at the same grocery store as her?"

He seemed a bit distracted by my question. "Um, yeah. Hey, you aren't... her boyfriend or anything, are you?"

"Who, Luka's?" I giggled. "How silly, me dating Luka. I'm... well, I guess the easiest way to put it is that I'm a close family friend."

He still seemed suspicious as he followed me inside. "You don't plan to date her or anything, do you?"

"Nope. I'm not sure if you know Meiko, but I'm with her," I said, leading him into the kitchen.

He nodded and muttered softly. "Oh, Meiko."

"Anyways! Speaking of those two, they're out at the store, but they should be home soon, so we can wait for them. You can have a seat if you want," I said.

He pulled out a chair at the table. "Thanks. I've got something important to talk to Luka about."

Rin overheard us talking in the kitchen and peeked her head around the corner, her eyes widening when she saw the other man. "Uh, Kaito?"

"Don't worry, Rin!" I said casually, grabbing a glass from the cabinet. "This guy is friends with your mom, so we're waiting for her to get home. Hey, you want anything to drink?"

"No thanks," the guy said, and I noticed him glancing at Rin. She ran off and I heard whispers in the other room.

I chuckled. "You know how kids are. That was one of Luka's daughters."

"How many kids does she have?"

"Three," I told him, filling my glass with water and sitting down. "Rin actually has a twin brother and their older sister is adopted."

He was very quiet, which to me showed he was polite. Observant, too. "I see."

"So!" I set my glass down with a clink. "What I'm getting from all of this is that you seem to like Luka a lot."
