It was the end of another normal day. Carey had just arrived home after a grueling day of classes at the nearby college. She had been lucky enough to find an affordable, small apartment within walking distance during her first semester.
She slumps the heavy backpack off her shoulders near the door, kicking her shoes at the black lump soon after.
Her stomach growls ferociously, loudly stating its discontent at being empty. She groans and fixes herself a snack, deciding to study while she eats so she can catch up in the classes she feels she lacks in. On her way back to the small living room, she grabs her books off of the coffee table that sits in the middle of a semicircle of chairs and a couch and slings herself into the nearest armchair. She spends the next several hours studying intently.
She continues this way, a ball of learning efficiency until she's startled from her trance by a dinging noise at her computer. She gazes up from the pages of her book at the screen.
As soon as she notices a new chat window open and blinking on the screen, she tosses her books to the floor and scrambles to see who it is. She's anxious, as she rarely ever gets new messages.
She stares at the screen name for a long time, trying to remember if she'd ever spoken with the person before. When she realizes she doesn't recognize the name she moves on. The first message is a simple "Hello?"
She searches for the desk chair behind her without looking, eyes glued firmly to the screen. Her curiosity gets the best of her, willing her to see what this random person wants, thus begins a rather odd chat with a stranger.
