Promises to keep

Ch 2. Getting prepared

(Eren's pov)
Today we are going outside the walls to investigate the disappearance of the horrid creatures humanity calls Titans.

"We will split up into two groups." Levi says leaning over the plans. "We will leave the walls with three people on each of our sides and two I the back and front. then we will split up and go in the opposite directions so we can cover one ground..." I listed to Levi with great interest, not wanting to miss any details. As he speaks I just nod along

Once he is finished explaining the plans he tells us our teams. He divides everyone in the room onto teams based on their skill set. We are trying a different approach with this mission. "Last and certainly not the least, Eren, your on team B." 'Crap' I thought to myself. 'Levi is on team A!' I was kind of disappointed.

"Everyone, go get your gear and meet in the stables so we can get our horses."
Levi orders. "Yes captain!" Everyone exclaimed before saluting and walking off to get their things.

But I don't stand up. I just sit there staring at Levi until he notices me.

When he turns around he gives me a strange look and then I jolt up and take a few steps towards him. "Levi I want to be on your team! I have always wanted to work with you more than I do normally. You are so talented, smart, and courageous! Will you please let me on your team!" I can tell this takes him by surprise because he takes a few steps back from where I'm standing now.

"What do you want to be on MY team so bad. Mikasa is pretty good too."
"Well that's different." I say "I look up to you way more that Mikasa." Levi blushes. "I guess i can figure something out." Levi says "thank you so much captain." I say trying to stay calm on the outside because on the inside I'm fluttering with happiness. I salute then walk away to get my stuff as well.

(Levi's pov)
Eren walks away and
My heart is still beating fast. "What's wrong with that kid.." I mumble to myself.

I end up putting Armin on the other team in place of Eren. They could use the brains considering they have Sasha and Connie on their team.

We all make our way to the stables and start saddling the horses. I love the horses, their so peaceful, they can't hurt you like people can. I pull a apple out of my pocket and feed it to the horse. "Good gir..." I bend down to look "boy. Good boy." I stroke the horses forehead and scratch it's neck.

Someone taps my shoulder and I jump. I turn around to see, of corse, Eren. "God you need to stop scaring me like that!" I scold him. "Looks like you have a soft side with the horses." Eren says with a sly grin on his face. "So?" I say not understanding his point. "Oh it's just like you try to act the the tough guy like, "grr I hate every living thing I'll kill you all if you touch me" but you seem to be real friendly with the horses."

"Whatever, do you have your things?" I ask "yeah, what horse am I riding today?" "You'll be riding sundown. She's a real calm and easy going girl but she can go fast when she wants to." I say pointing to the beautiful brown horse three stalls down. "Thanks!" He says then he smiles and walks away.

(Eren's pov)
We get into our formations after about 15 minutes of getting everything straight. My heart starts to beat faster as we make our way towards the opening in the wall. I'm riding next to Levi so I glance in his direction. He is sitting on the horse straight and strong. He notices me looking at him so I quickly look away.

Now we are only a few feet from the outside world. Then the adrenaline rush kicks in. The horses speed up and commander Erwin starts barking orders (he is also on our team). We break apart and move in our directions. We ride for about 7 minutes, seeing nothing so far, then as we come up over a ridge and into a valley. We stop dead in our tracks. I could barely breath by what I saw.
