IMPORTANT AUTHORS NOTE AT THE END
"And you didn't tell me?" She looks at me with big eyes. The innocence in them makes it hard to take her seriously when she's mad. And right now, she is. Because I fucked up. Bad.
"What was I supposed to tell you?" I ask before thinking, which makes her madder. Avery crosses her arms over her chest, the already short material of my shirt riding up her body, the creamy thighs I so much desire around my neck on show. Fuck. I wash my unsuitable thoughts away when my girl speaks again, "oh, I don't know, maybe that my brother and best friend were together for months?" Her voice drips of sarcasm, the use of my previous words showing how mad she really is.
"You know I would tell if I could," I reason.
"You would tell me if you wanted to." She takes a step back, now leaning against the opposite wall. "You hid it from me, do you have any idea how bad I felt for lying straight up their faces? When in reality I shouldn't feel guilty because it turned out that all of them did the same to me, you included!" Avery raises her breaking voice and waves around with one of her hands as her chestnut eyes get blazed with tears, the betrayal she feels, not only by her brothers and best friend but by myself too, showing on her face strongly.
"Bab-" I take a step closer, ready to comfort her, only to get stopped by her outstretched hand. The action makes me flinch. "No, you don't get to do this when you know you've fucked up, Aiden!"
"I had my reasons..." I say lowly, dropping my arms by my side. This is probably the only time she's ever used my name when we fought. Fuck, this is probably the first time we fought a real fight. A fight where she's mad at me. Really fucking mad.
"Reasons? You lied to me for months, you admitted it yourself!" Avery scoffs, violently wiping the corner of her eye with her fisted hand.
"Can I explain at least?"
I can't fucking stand seeing you in tears.
"No. It doesn't matter if you have an explanation, you lied." Her voice is now calm, unlike seconds ago. It sounds brittle. "To me." She turns around without a second glance, her hands fisting the ends of the shirt as she walks out of the bathroom.
Sighing, I slump back against the counter. With closed eyes, I listen as she walks out the bedroom and down the hall.
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
How the fuck do I make this up to her?
I don't know how long I sit in here for, but sometime later, I find myself walking down the hallway towards the guest room. The guest room where her muffled sniffles are coming from.
Without bothering to knock on the door, I pull the handle down and enter. With her back to me, my Avery lays under the covers as she faces the window.
