"Yeah, like normal people like me win those kinds of contests," Kelsey said. She was so sure those contests were rigged.
"Maybe, but wouldn't you like a chance to prove yourself?" Amber added. She knew Kelsey had so much talent, and she would like her to know that she supports her. Kelsey was a beautiful girl, but didn't stick out because she didn't have a lot of money. She couldn't buy cool clothes, or waste her money on makeup, but she was one of those people who look beautiful no matter what.
"Why would I get picked out of a million people? There's probably professionals out there with much more experience." Kelsey didn't have much self confidence. The truth was, she was very good at songwriting, and could beat a professional. She never had too much encouragement in her house since she had no siblings, and it was just her and her mom. Her dad had been an alcoholic, and left her at age 11. She remembers breaking of glass and her mother screaming, but not much else. She packed herself an overnight bag and took her friend up on the opportunity to sleep over that night. The next day, she came home to her mother crying on the bed, and her dad nowhere to be found. Since then, her mom has taken after her dad, and physically abused her since day one of her separation.
They stopped talking about it after that, but Amber never forgot about that contest. She found an old song lying around that Kelsey had written and sent it in. Kelsey was in for a big surprise!
