Cadence
I took a moment to watch Aaron sleep one last time before I left. He looked so young when he was asleep. Looking at him that time made it hard for me to leave. I couldn't imagine him waking up not knowing he might never see me again.
But I couldn't just let my mom leave alone when all she had was me.
My parents' divorce was hard for all of us. I knew she really loved him, but my dad was a careless and stubborn man. He was cheating on her for years and she never knew about it. Neither did I.
I was never really a big part of my dad's life. He was always busy and didn't spend a lot of time at home. If it wasn't for Kaiden and Celine, her two eldest from her previous marriage, I'd have begged my mom to leave him a long time ago.
I was going to escape Rosemary beach with my mother. We would start a new life together without my dad in the picture.
Problem was, I'd have to leave all my friends here. Including Aaron, my partner in crime, my best friend, my first love.
I didn't tell him about me leaving because I knew he would try to stop me. I was making it easier for the both of us. Tonight, I asked him to spend the night with me. He laughed and said, "Well... this is new. Normally I'm the one asking, but of course I'd love to spend the night with you." He was so happy. I couldn't imagine how he'd feel when he wakes up without me there.
That day, we ate dinner at our favourite restaurant in the city and then ran straight to the hotel his parents possessed.
Now laying together, I gazed at him and touched his face with the back of my hand. He looked so peaceful when asleep. "I love you," I whispered as tears started to fall down my cheeks. I kissed his lips without waking him up before I got off the bed.
I put my dress on and looked at him one more time before walking out the doorway without looking back.
