Bethany scraped away small pieces of nail polish from her black painted nails, while tapping her foot impatiently on the floor. She was sitting on a cold stone floor inside a small prison cell without windows, while waiting for her verdict. A door that opened with a creek somewhere near by and heavy footsteps told Bethany someone was coming. She watched some pieces of nail polish fall down next to her foot, before looking up to see who had come in. It was the police sheriff; a bald big man with a beard that had started turning gray. He had a sullen expression on his face while he walked over to Bethany and stopped just by the bars.
"Miss Jones, I believe you are free to go," he said while taking out his keychain from his pocket with a sigh.
"What? How is that possible?" Bethany furrowed her brows while getting up on her feet, listening to the keys jingle by the lock.
"Just get out before I change my mind," the door was now open and the sheriff made a gesture to show Bethany to get out of there.
Bethany just nodded briefly and hurried out past the sheriff.

When she came out in the sun outside of the police station, she saw Petra and Billy waiting for her. They waved at her very aggressively with serious expressions. Bethany hurried towards them to find out what was going on and how the hell she could just walk out of there, just like noting happened.
"What is going on?" Bethany hissed while stopping in front of her friends.
"No time to explain now, just know that it was Master Lin that got you out. He always fixes problems like this," Billy whispered while starting to walk.
"Here," Petra whispered while slipping Bethany's knives back into her sleeves.
"Why are we in a hurry?" Bethany whispered back while walking faster to keep up with them.
"Chico is pissed, we have to get away before he finds us," Petra took a sharp turn into a small alley, the others followed.
It turned out there was a secret passageway in the wall behind a large trash bin, which led directly to the school. They were going to use that and then hide in their rooms with their doors looked. Chico probably wouldn't dare to touch Bethany or anyone else if they were at the school, where a teacher could easily see it.

Bethany didn't sleep that well that night. She tossed and turned while feeling cold sweat run down her back, and just couldn't seem to fall asleep. Her mind where filled with numerous thoughts, which made her constantly wake back up when she was about to drift away into sleep. It was exhausting.
The thoughts were of course mainly about Chico and his gang. The stupidest thing Bethany ever could have done was to attack him like that, but it was just so annoying. She had not done a single thing! Why should she listen to him threatening her because of something she didn't do? Of course she lost her temper!
But then there was the tiny detail that Chico was, if not even one of the most dangerous, students of a school were they learned how to kill people. And with the help from his gang as well, he could easily hunt her down. This had turned into quite the mess. The nervousness about the party was totally gone now, it was like nothing compared to this.
Wait, the party! Bethany had totally forgotten about it until now. She hadn't gotten anything to wear, damn it! But hold on, did she really start worrying about that when she just told herself it wasn't a problem? 'God, I'm so not focusing on the real problem,' Bethany thought.
Well, everything had to wait until tomorrow anyways. Now she needed to sleep, it was crucial that she got enough sleep if she wanted to be able to defend herself if she had to fight.
With that last thought in her head, Bethany drifted off into an uneasy sleep.

A loud noise followed by a shout woke Bethany up. Her first thought was that it was finally Saturday, which meant rest. But then she realized she had to know what made the sound and opened her eyes. She blinked a few times at the bright light in the ceiling, and then turned her head towards Petra.
Petra was sitting straight up in her bed, her black hair all over the place after sleeping. Her eyes were wide open and she sat as still as if she was a statue. Her gaze was fixated on the door.
"Petra wha-"
"Shut up!" Petra hissed.
Bethany gave Petra a confused look, but soon understood what was going on. The loud noise was a bang on the door, and Bethany now heard it again. Someone was banging on the door like they wanted to break through it. And then Bethany heard who it was.
"Open the fucking door rats!" it was Chico's voice, filled with complete anger.
He banged one more time, louder if it was even possible.
"You're going to pay for this. You fucking bitch!" Chico shouted.
The cut on his cheek was probably what he was referring to, Bethany realized.
Bethany looked down at her clock on her bedside table; it showed 4:21 a.m. Chico probably thought he could get away with it if he attacked Bethany at night. But why hadn't he just picked the lock? Bethany hoped it was because he was too stupid for that.
"I know you're in there, but you're stupid cowards! Fine then, if you don't dare to meet me willingly, then I'll find another way. You will pay for this!" with that, fast and aggressive footsteps disappeared down the hallway.
Petra and Bethany were in a bit of a shock after that. They just looked at each other with worried and frightened faces, while thinking a million thoughts. After a little while, Bethany said:
"Should we um, try to sleep? We can talk about this in the morning."
"Yeah, we probably should," Petra said and slowly laid back down.
They both then fell asleep rather quickly, perhaps because of the exhaustion of waking up like this in the middle of the night, combined with the shock. Anyhow, they slept dreamlessly without any more disruption.
