ELY'S CASE

If there's one thing Spencer learned from his years with the BAU, it's that you never know which case will become personal, which case will hit you, which will change your life. Spencer would have never expected that the dirty-dozen case would eventually turn him into the father of a beautiful daughter. He didn't know about that yet, though. Not in 2026, when a whole different case was about to make him a dad for the first time.

"We've got a new case and it's on the home front.", Poe announced to their team one morning. They were all gathered in their conference room as their new technical analyst showed them images of three dead women all with their legs and hands tied behind their backs, facing up, naked and covered in countless cuts. But the worst wounds were their slit throats. "Meet Laura Dreifuss, Shila Martens and finally Charlotte Lexington. Laura, the first victim was found three weeks ago by her husband. Shila got discovered by her kids after school last week and Charlotte was found yesterday morning.", Poe went on.

"I suppose the cause of death are the slit throats?", JJ asked.

"Yes, but they've been all bleeding for hours before that. In all three cases the unsub attacked in the morning when the victim's partners and children were off to school and work. There was no sign of forced entry in any of the cases but all three of the victims had a blunt force trauma to the head that indicates that the unsub managed to get invited inside before knocking them out. The unsub then spend several hours with them, whipping them repeatedly before finally slicing their throats and the first two bodies were found, not even an hour after their approximate time of death.", Poe continued to explain as Reid processed all the information he was given.

"So the unsub must've had a good idea of their daily schedules.", he stated, even though it was quite obvious. If someone spend so much time with their victims in their own homes, they had to be completely confident that no one would interrupt them.

"What about the third victim.", Alvez asked and Poe hit a button on his tablet to zoom in on Charlotte Lexington.

"She was found two days after the murder. ", he replied.

"Any witnesses?", Tara cut in.

"Yeah... One. ", Poe sighed before switching out Charlotte's dead body for a picture of a little black boy, with wide terrified eyes. "This is ten-year-old Elias Jacobs. He's Charlotte's foster son and he was found locked inside a closet that was in direct line of sight to the murder. He might've seen the whole thing and definitely spend two days locked in the closet right next to his dead foster mom.", Poe explained, his voice switching from the cheeky and easygoing tone he usually had, into a more somber an sympathetic one.

"Two days...", JJ gasped out and Reid couldn't relate more. Being locked up like this, with no food or water, had to be traumatizing enough on its own. But being locked up right next to your foster mother's corpse... It was unimaginably awful.
