"I thought princesses live in castles," I'm trying to understand where I am. The only thing I know for sure is that it's dark and cool in here.

"What's wrong about being at my place?" she asks in surprise.

"I'm cold," I don't want to complain, but I don't want to get sick in the middle of summer either! Just right before haymaking, and the harvest season is following it... Oh, Mokosh, what am I thinking about! I do not know if I ever return back to my village after I escaped, leaving sleeping Zabava on the wooden bench in the seni of our house.

"There are hot springs in the depths of the caves. You are all dirty," the princess chuckles.

"You look no better than I either!"

"I've been held hostage by kikimoras for many summers. What's your excuse, girl?" I can't see her, but I feel that she is standing next to me.

"Forgive me."

I feel how she takes my hand and leads me to the very depths. Her cave is located high in the mountains. Just behind them is the Forest of Gray Spirits. Not one sane person will sneak in there. Well, it's the kind she'd choose!

"I used to have a castle," says the dragon. "But it was destroyed hundreds of summers ago," she trails off. "I prefer to live here. I feel comfortable flying off the ledge in the mountain. Humans and other trash don't come in here."

"I'm sorry the castle is gone." I don't know how to comfort her. I would go crazy if my house were destroyed. "Aiii! I seem to have stepped on something!" I squeeze her hand tightly.

"Maybe it's one of my jewels or just a skull..."

"Aaaaah!" I press my whole body against her, ready to climb on her head.

"The skull of a cow or a sheep," the dragon is attempting to calm me down. "I don't eat people, they taste sweet, almost like pork... ugh!"

"If you don't eat people, how do you know what they taste like!?" It's too late for me to distance myself from her, as the dragon holds me tightly in her arms.

"You seem as sweet as honey: I would make an exception for you and eat you whole!"

"You couldn't do it!" I say, trembling. "Your throat is too narrow when you transform into a dragon."

The girl laughs, "You are a real present! My boyarinya, we're almost there...."

I'm not boyarinya, but I love the way she calls me.

In a huge cave it is light because of the hollows in the ceiling through which all the bright constellations of summer are seen. This is my favorite red star. In my village it is called 'Cranberry'. Crystals and precious stones flicker here and there on the walls.

"One stone will be enough to feed an entire village," I mutter delightedly.

The girl is no longer standing next to me. I am surprised to notice that she is throwing off her clothes and heading towards the shimmering springs. I don't know if the warmth from the water makes my cheeks as red as the Cranberry star: her body has not seen the sun for a long time, but it has not lost its flexibility and grace.
"Give me this sword. It looks pretty sharp," she asks me.

Oftentimes in summers I have my abolitions with other village girls and peasant women in the brook when the sun is at its zenith, and we are tired after working in the field or picking marsh berries, but I have never seen such beautiful body like hers. The breasts are like juicy ripe apples and no corsets or undercoats are needed; her body is slim and the muscles are strong. Not all boys in the village can boast of such muscles... Admiring her, I don't immediately understand what is under my feet: heaps of gold coins and multi-colored stones dot the cave floor! Among them you can see scepters, crowns, bracelets, goblets... Once Danko's mother bought a gold ring with a red amulet-stone in the capital, so we, women of the village, went to look at it, but my mother: she is a very practical wife, and she has never been into trinkets! And I'm here, and I'm walking on all these riches! There are crowns of real rulers of the past!

"Will you give me a sword someday?" The dragon tries to untangle her black hair that resembles raven's wing colour.

"Of course!" I try not to think about how magnificent her shoulders are, and I grab an old two-handed sword with an impractical golden hilt. "Take it, please... Hey! What are you doing!"

With one light movement, she cuts off her hair, and now it is short like boy's one.

"Why did you do that! That's the beauty of any woman!" I wish I never said it. I repeated Danko's words... I've never seen women with short hair, but she looks very cocky and... unusually attractive.

"Plus a bunch of tangles and dirt!" the dragon laughs.

She slowly descends into one of the natural baths. With a languid groan she-dragon is plunging her pale body into the water. Unexpectedly for myself, I feel strangely good hearing her moaning.

"If you give me your kiss, I will give you all the riches in my cave," she says slowly, closing her eyes and throwing her head back. Her cheeks turn pink, and droplets of moist air appear on her face.

"I don't need your riches," I declare proudly, holding my chin up. A new goat wouldn't hurt, though. My little brother might need its milk if there's something wrong with mother's milk.

The girl opens her eyes and looks at me, quickly raising and lowering her chest.

"I will give you my wedding ring," I angrily take off the ring that Danko gave to me. It wasn't as pretty as his mother's ring, but all the girls in the village were jealous of me. "I'll give you the ring if you promise to kiss me..."

The dragon looks at me without blinking, then she rises out of the water again. Droplets like small diamonds shine in the light of stars and cave crystals.

"I have not been with a woman in so long, and I can't promise you to be gentle."
