before we begin the story, I'd like to clarify a few things and share some content warnings!
first and foremost, this fic was largely inspired by lord huron's song 'the yawning grave' (hence the title and chapter titles). the song itself pertains to another theme but I felt it really fit the mood of the story, so give it a listen if you'd like!
this story is a dream smp zombie apocalypse AU (alternate universe). what this means is: there will be characters from the dream smp, but the storyline itself will not relate to the dsmp lore at all. it's largely SBI family-focused, but other characters will eventually come into the story as well :D
warnings: there will be graphic depictions of violence, panic attacks, as well as character deaths in the upcoming chapters.
there is no shipping in this fic, and everything from chapter 1 onwards will be properly edited, capitalised, and punctuated.
