The Beginning Of An End.
The Wraefield Uprising.Collin sprinted down an alleyway, looking back every few seconds, making sure he wasn't being followed. He pulled out his phone and sent an SOS message to his friends.
He reached the top floor of an abandoned building and waited in an empty office.
His friends hurried into the room. "What the hell did you do?" Yazmin yelled.
"I was defending myself. I didn't mean-"
"Didn't mean to kill him? You knew he was a member of The Revoltists. They will be after you. All of us." Violet snapped.
"Uh, guys. They are here." Stella barked as tires screeched outside.
Julian turned to Collin. "What is the plan?"
"I need a minute." Collin said.
"I am picking up twenty heat signatures outside." Edgar said, the brown of his eyes turning orange.
"Your minute is up!" Julian yelled.
"Split up! We will meet at the meadows. I have a plan." Collin said.
"I love you. I will see you on the other side of this." Edgar said, before kissing Violet deeply.
Violet grabbed Edgar's face. "I love you." She kissed him and let go.
"Don't go easy on them!" Collin yelled.
Electricity raced up and down Violet's arms.
Stella pulled out her escrima sticks and readied herself. "Collin, move your ass!" She yelled.
"Not without you. Get to the stairs." He replied.
Violet flew out of a window facing the street, showering glass down on some of the Revoltists. She landed with the sound of thunder and a blast of lightning, shocking five of the thugs.
Julian grabbed Natasha and teleported next to Violet. Twirling his swords, Julian protected Natasha as she fought with her hammers.
Edgar, Collin, Stella, Yazmin and Cronos stayed inside to take care of the revoltists that had already entered the building.
"Eight men coming up. Stairs and elevators. Split up." Edgar informed.
Yazmin gripped her steel trident and entered the elevator to go down. She leaned against the handrail, putting her hair up. She fixed the gum over her tongue and blew a bubble as a rebel jumped down from the escape hatch. Before she could pop the bubble, the rebel kicked her back, breaking the mirrored wall.
"Oh, it's on!" She said. Yazmin made the trident shorter and swung it, cutting him, causing him to fall over. Another man dropped down and punched her in the face.
"Ow!" Yazmin screamed, wiping blood from her nose with her knuckle. "Good hit!" She added.
She kicked him to the ground and stabbed him as the doors opened to Cronos.
"You good?" He asked, looking at the bodies.
Yazmin strutted past him. "Duh." She answered.
"Nice job! Let's go!" Edgar said, running for the exit.
Stella and Collin made it out of the building. "We need to lead them out of the city." Collin yelled. "Head for the rally point, I'll catch up!" Stella nodded and ran.
Three Revoltists exited the building behind them. Collin took a deep breath and raised his hands. "Are you guys sure?" Collin asked, eyes pulsing with a purple hue.
"You're the star of the show, Collin. You killed him, it's only right." One man said.
Collin threw his arms outward and the group flew back, giving him time to run for the meadow outside of the city.
He arrived at the rally point, rejoining the team. They crouched in the tall grass as the surviving Revoltists reached the edge of the meadow.
"Find them, but keep Collin alive. He is mine!" The leader ordered. The Revoltists spread out in a line and entered the field, advancing slowly and searching the area.
Collin held up his hand, letting the Revoltists draw closer. The team watched Collin in anticipation. He dropped his hand.
"NOW!"
Julian teleported around excitedly, snapping necks and creating chaos.
Stella slashed and thrusted with her blades.
Natasha beat a guy's head in with her hammers.
Julian teleported and grabbed an arrow out of the air inches from Natasha. "Hey cutie." He said, smiling.
She pulled him to the side and hit a guy in the face with her hammer. "Hey." She kissed him before he teleported off.
Violet shot bolts from her arms and rained lightning from the sky.
The team retreated through the forest as they fought.
Collin clenched his fists and pulled them to his chest, causing two large trees to fall behind him. The leader leapt over the trees and tackled Collin. His kitchen knife hung in the air, ready to penetrate Collin's chest, as the clouds released.
"Today is the day you will die!" He yelled. Rain dripped from his light brown curly hair, running down his tan forehead and over the birthmark over his eyebrow. His radiant blue eyes revealed a mixture of rage and satisfaction. "For my friend, I will finally put an end to you, forever." The leader said, a sinister smile growing on his face.
Collin smiled, showing his blood stained teeth. "You're too late. They are coming."
Cronos knelt over his final opponent and removed his spear. He scanned the woods. He spotted Collin in trouble about a hundred yards away. For a moment, Cronos hesitated. An escrima stick flew past Cronos. The leader dropped dead, drenching Collin's face in blood.
Collin spat out blood. "Ew! What the fuck!" He yelled.
"But did you die?" Stella laughed as she shoved past Cronos. "Get the hell up and let's go! The only person that is going to kill my best friend is me, with my bare hands." She said, pulling him up on his feet. The suns started to creep behind the canyons of Alynthi as the team regrouped around Collin. Julian teleported in, the last to arrive, out of breath and wide-eyed. "The edge of the woods. Looks like the whole chapter is coming."
"We need to go." Edgar yelled.
Collin observed the chaos around him. All of the blood and bodies, a direct result of his mistake.
"We have to fight these assholes!" Julian argued, pulling Natasha behind him.
Flashbacks of that moment caused chaos in Collin's head.
"Collin." Stella called out to him.
The rumors, the bullying, the name calling, threats, the pain, the fear, the sadness Collin felt. Growing up misunderstood and cast out. It all turned into one emotion.
"Collin!"
Rage.
It welled up in Collin's chest. Collin then heard his dad's words. "Be the better person, son."A deadly silence engulfed him. An unfamiliar voice whispered to him. "Fight."
"No." Collin barked.
A rush of energy coursed through Collin, a purple glow pulsed in his eyes. He threw his arms and head back, letting out a primal scream. A blast of energy flared in all directions, knocking down trees and scattering the Revoltists. Those left standing retreated to their trucks and abandoned the fight. Blood ran from Collin's nose.
The team could feel the wind get stronger around them. Something wasn't right. There it was: a military dropship. It was a dark olive color with a golden shield. In the shield was a black emblem of a two headed bird atop a laurel wreath. The Sovereign collected the young and the gifted. They had been watching the whole time.
"Telekinetic?" The Sergeant Major whispered. "Drop team, retrieve them all." He ordered.
A silver cube fell to the bloody grass by the team. The box sent out a flash of light, blinding them while gas rendered them unconscious. Men in black slid down ropes and landed by them. They placed restraint chips on their necks and bound their hands before hoisting them back up to the ship.COMING JULY 31, 2021 on Amazon and kindle.
