At fifteen years old, Aven was reaped for the 73rd Hunger Games. Her mentors were a drunk old woman named Bess Shear, and a boy a couple years older named Sailor Thatch.
They helped her played the nice, sweet young girl during the interviews and training. She kept the act in the games, allying with the two District Nine tributes that year. They got far enough, then split up. Aven headed towards the middle.
She had basically won her games after finding a sheath of throwing knives in the abandoned cornucopia. After that, she easily took out the two remaining careers, the pair from Two, by getting them in the back and head. The final fight was between her and the District Four girl, who Aven ended by pinning against the cornucopia and slitting her throat.
By the time she got home, The Capitol gave her the nickname 'The Butcher', a nickname she detests, but lives with anyway.
Shortly after though, she began a romance with fellow victor and previous mentor, Sailor Thatch. They befriended the other victors.
Her relationship with her father did become strained too. He was too proud to take money from her since she was so young, and did things for it he knew she would always regret. They fought over it often.
