All was normal the next day at school. Jack and Merida were on speaking terms again, Hiccup and Punzie were finally going out, and best of all, Elsa was sick for 2 days straight! Good things were happening when she was gone. Merida finally passed her math test, Jack managed to skip an entire class without being caught, Hiccup's cat Toothless, went to the vet and he wasn't sick, and Punzie's art project was sent to the finals competition.

The four friends were eating together at lunch, when Punzie brought something up.

“Did you guys hear about prom?!" She asked excitedly.

“Unfortunately, yeah. I did." Merida said, taking a huge bite of her apple.

“Well, who are you going with?" Punzie said. “Me and Hiccup are going together!"

“I'm not going unless someone asks me. No sense in going for no reason." Merida said. Punzie just rolled her eyes.

“What about you, Jack?" Punzie asked.

“I dunno....I was going to ask someone, but if she says no, I won't go."

“OOOOH! IS IT M-!" Punzie said, but Jack reached over the table and put his hand over her mouth.

“Ooh, Jack! Shy?" Merida teased. He just blushed. Fortunately for him, the bell rang. Unfortunately for him, when he and Merida walked into class, Elsa was sitting there.

“Darn! And I was doing so good in math!" Merida mumbled to Jack, who let out a laugh. Elsa heard and whipped around.

“Hey, Jack!" She said, waving him over and patting his seat.

“Elsa, I remember where my seat is." He said, rolling his eyes. Merida started laughing and he felt a little more proud of himself. Elsa was unfazed by this and pulled out their finished poster. She tried explaining what she put on the poster, but Jack was very obviously ignoring her and talking to her, and later, Peter, until class started.

“This is the last day to work on your projects! So hop to it!" Professor Belle said, and went back to her desk to read. Jack was about to turn back around to keep talking with Merida and Peter, but he noticed they were talking and laughing, barely noticing anything else. He turned back around and buried his head in his arms.
What If he asks her? Even worse, what if she says yes?! He thought to himself. He was so absorbed in his thoughts, he barely noticed the question Elsa asked him.

“Hey, Jack? Will you go to prom with me?"

He let out a sigh. If Peter was taking Merida, why not? “Yeah, sure." He sighed.
~~~~~After school~~~~~
When Merida got home, she ran up to her room and jumped on her bed. She pulled out her phone and was playing Clash of Clans, when she got a text from an unknown number.
?: Hey redhead
Merida: Um, hey? Who is this?
?: Elsa
Merida: Oh, hey Elsa.
Elsa: Let me cut to the chase. I know you like Jack, but me and him are going to prom together.
Merida: Great. I don't care.
But she did care. She felt really bad, like someone just punched her in the face. She and Jack had just made up, and now this? He just ditched her for Elsa too!
Merida ran downstairs and out the door. She kept running until she got to the alley behind Punzie's house. Then she jumped the fence into her backyard, and climbed the ladder to their old tree house.
It was still in good shape, and there was still some things from their childhood. There was a whoopie cushion on Hiccup's chair from the time Merida and Jack played their first prank. On the book shelf was a stack of papers stapled together from the time they attempted to write a book. Even the old towel they made for Toothless was still inside the box. Merida sat on her old chair and buried her face on her arms.
Why am I so upset? She thought. I don't even like Jack! But she still kept crying. In fact, she was so upset, she didn't hear Punzie's back door close, or the person climbing up the ladder.
“Merida?" Punzie whispered. She sighed, relieved and put down the hockey stick she was holding. “I thought you were a-" She started, but then she noticed the look on Merida's face.
“What's wrong?" She asked, and Merida told her what happened.
“I'm calling him." Punzie said, pulling out her phone.
“I don't want to see him." Merida said, shaking her head.
But it was too late. Punzie had already dialed the number and shoved her phone at Merida. She sighed and answered it.
“Hello?" Jack said at the other end.
“Why'd you ask Elsa to the prom?" Punzie yelled into the phone.
“I-" Jack started, but Merida pressed the END CALL button.
“Sorry Punz. I don't wanna do this." Then she jumped out of the tree house and ran back home, with Punzie still yelling at Jack through her phone.
