~ Chapter 2 ~

He kept asking questions about if I remember anything. I kept telling him no, but he continued to ask anyway.

"How old are you?"

"I- I don't know" I'd never thought of that. It wasn't my first thought when I woke up. How old was I? When I saw myself in the mirror I would say I look about 7 or 8. I was young for sure.

"Don't worry about knowing any of these questions, I'll answer them for you at the end. I just want to see if you remember anything." He was typing on his computer and didn't make eye contact.

"I keep telling you I don't remember anything." I was staring at the ceiling by now. "I'm hungry..."

"Alright, last question before I answer anything or any questions you have for me." He looked at me this time, and I went to stare back into his eyes. His eyes might have a light color but they were definitely a black hole.

"Do you remember what I said your name was when I walked in?" He had his fingers laced together letting his head rest on them as his elbows allowed him to stay resting on his hands.

"You said Noa... umm... Noa Azail I think you said" I made sure to not make many facial expressions. I didn't want him to get too much information out of me.

"That is correct" He leaned back in his chair and smiled as he typed something down on his laptop and then shut it.

"Now my turn to ask questions" I slightly glared at him again.

"Go ahead" He rested his arms on the table waiting for me to speak up again.

"Where am I?"

"In a mansion"

My eyebrows furrowed a little but I made them go back to normal almost immediately.

"A mansion? I can't tell if he's lying or not"

"Who are you?"

"You can call me Father"

"Father?! Is this guy crazy..." I looked at his facial features, then I looked at his hair. I doubt he's my father, but there's always a possibility.

"Right...." I was definitely skeptical of this man. "Who is my mother then?"

"She sadly died at childbirth" His expression didn't falter at all, like he had done this before. Or maybe he's really good at controlling his emotions. Maybe I'm overthinking this.

"How old am I?"

"7"

"Why am I in here... in this, white room?"

"We had to see if you possessed a certain chemical in your body."

"Chemical... in my body. Okay, weird" I thought nothing of it and moved on.

"Why am I strapped to a chair?" I looked down at the ropes again, seeing they were sadly still there.

"You were thrashing around and it was our last resort. We didn't want to it, trust me"

"Trust...? We just met" I squinted my eyes at him while I thought about it. "Thrashing around you say"

"Hmm..."

"Here I promise to not lie to you"

"And how can I believe you?" I scoffed.

"I pinky promise" He held out his right hand towards me with his pinky up.

My face probably yelled 'confusion'.

"Hey, you may think it's childish but pinky promises are sacred" He smiled happily.

I deadpanned at him.

"What?"

"Maybe it's the fact I'm strapped to a very uncomfortable metal chair, and have been for the past few hours.  Oh don't forget the part where I can't move" As I said the last sentence, I threw myself back and forth in the chair making it bang against the floor. Once I stopped I looked at him. His eyebrows were curved upwards and his mouth was shaped into a smile that looked like he wanted to laugh.

We stared at each other for a good 30 seconds before I spoke up again.

"I think I understand the thrashing part" I scoffed, smiling. My eyes looked away from him and led me to look out the window. All I could see was a purplish sunset with the sun setting right below the frame of the window.

"Why am I really in here?" I had a softer expression on and a softer tone. I didn't go back to look at him because I was mesmerized by the sunset outside. My first memory of a sunset, and I'm stuck in this room.. awesome.

"I can't tell you that"

"You said you wouldn't lie to me" I was back to my harsher tone.

"I didn't lie, nor did I tell the truth. I simply told you an answer that works both ways"

"He has a good way with words."

"Fair enough" I made my way back to look at him. "When can I get out of this awful room?"

"As soon as you pass some tests. The Professor will come in shortly to test you. The sooner you pass the sooner I can tell you what you'll be doing and the sooner you can get out of this room." He smiled as he collected his stuff. "Sounds good?"

"Yeah, I guess."

"Alright then. I shall see you later Noa." He clutched the things in his hands as he pushed the door open.

"Oh wait!! What about—" The door had already closed and I was left to answer myself.

"—the ropes..." My voice died down as he didn't reopen the door to answer me. I sighed loudly as I leaned my head back once again to stare at the ceiling.

"Where the heck am I?"
