All the memories begin from when I let loose my first inferno.
I remember from when I was a child, around 6,000 years old. I had just discovered that I was uncontrollably overwhelmed with power. It was the same unbearably hot fire that the other Demonic beings had, yet I had so much more of it raging inside of me. I couldn't figure out what to do with myself.
I kept my powers bottled up inside myself, because whenever I let out the tiniest spurt of flame, I couldn't control it, and I let loose every ounce of Demonic fire inside me. Even as a child, I created huge, roaring infernos that would make any deadly hurricane, tornado, and wildfire the mortals have up in their fancy world look like a little cartoon stormy cloud.
Demonic infernos are terrifying, let me tell you that. I don't feel terror when mine are raging, but when the other demons get mad at me, that's terrifying. Especially when they shoot fire directly at me. You can hear the piercing screams of demons burning all around you. You can feel the thick, black blood of our kind wash over your feet as it rolls down the crumbled streets. You can also hear one certain screeching of the Demon letting loose the inferno. I like to think of it our laughter... more like my laughter. I've only heard that insane screaming once or twice, and on those occasions I've been the one 'laughing'. That's only when I release all of my power, though. No one else laughs like I do. They're mostly silent when the let their inner fire rage the streets.
I guess my odd laughing and screaming is what mortals call 'the laugh of a madwoman'. I guess that you could call me a madwoman, too. I don't mind. It's probably true, anyways.
Anyways, I'm lucky that I live near the River Styx, so I can just jump in whenever my master gets mad and throws fire at me. They can't burn me when I'm in the Black River. See, there are only two things that can extinguish demonic fire-Styx river water and holy water. My master and all the other demons are too scared to even venture into Styx, though. They say they'll go insane from the whispers of lost hopes and from the talking of the dead. The mortals think that their broken wishes and passed souls of people go to the river to be washed away, but it's really all from the Demonic. That's why most of our kind go insane if they touch the water or get to close to it. The talking gets to them, I guess. But I like the whispers. They talk to me. It's really not scary and creepy like everyone else says. I like the sound and feeling of fading hopes washing through my ears when I duck my head into the black waters. I've never swam down very deep, though. The farther you swim into the water, the louder all the whispers get, until their screaming in your ears. That's when I can't take it, and I have to go back up. My master isn't there anymore when I do come back up. I think he just can't take it.
Another thing I like about River Styx is that I can't see the Obsidian Palace. I hate looking at that huge, looming black castle in the background. It makes me jealous of the Demonic Royalties that live luxuriously inside. I bet that they're all stuck up snobs.
Except for one. I've met one Demonic Royal, and her name is Rin. The first time I saw her was when I was a kid, and Princess Rin of Oblivion was introduced into our world. When the ceremony was held, everyone was shocked. We had never seen a Demon like this infant before. Her hair was a colour white like nothing we had ever seen before, her eyes were a glowing, ice blue instead of a glowing red, and she had a lighter shade of grey skin than all of us. I couldn't see from the distance I was at, but she had snowflakes drifting from her hair.
After about 6,000 years, I met Rin again. She was sitting by the Styx River, her hands resting in the black water. Her blue eyes were closed as snowflakes calmly drifted from her pure white hair.
"Hey, what're you doing here?" I asked her. The Princess jumped with a squeak, jerking her hands out of the water.
"I-I was just playing...!!" Rin squeaked out.
"You can't play in the Black River!!" I snapped at her. "That's disrespectful to the dead!"
"I-it is...?"
"Yes!!"
"Oh, I'm sorry!!" Princess Rin sputtered out. "I'll go back home..."
I frowned. Who knew the Princess of Hell would be so apologetic? I feel a twinge of guilt for snapping at her.
"Hey..." I mumbled. "Why are you REALLY out here...?"
The Princess look up at me with round eyes. "U-umm..." She gulped. "Promise you won't tell anyone? I'll get in trouble..."
I gave her a silent nod.
"Well... I like to listen to the voices... They talk to me. They're my friends."
"Dead souls that float around in a river are your friends?" I snorted.
She winced. "Y-yeah..."
I released a small smile. "They're my friends, too..."
Rin looks up at me. "They are...?"
"Yeah."
She smiles happily. "So you won't tell on me?"
"Nope."
The Princess smiled happily. "Thanks, miss!" She said brightly. "I gotta go back to the castle now. Bye!" And with that, Rin skipped off into the dead underbrush towards the Obsidian Palace.
Rin and I used to hang out occasionally. She said it was against the rules for Royals to leave the palace-especially her, since Rin was such an... odd species of Demon.
"My daddy says that other Demons might try and hurt me because I'm different." Rin told me once. I've also noticed that not only her looks are different, her powers and personality is different, too. Rin can't use fire-only ice. The fire would kill her, even if it was her own. Rin is extremely sensitive to fire. Even the weak little mortal fire can seriously harm her.
Her personality is a lot different from any other Demon I've met. Rin's the sweetest, kindest, most generous Demon of them all. No one else is like her. Maybe that's why else Lucifer never let's her out. She might get taken advantage of.
The last time I saw her was right when I let the first spurt of flame release from my palms. Then flame enveloped everything around me, and her screams were drowned out by my laughter.
