Inside your mind, you were trapped in a vicious cycle. It was as if you couldn't wake up, you could feel panic and struggle to build up, but no matter how hard you tried, you couldn't escape it. Through dangers untold and hardships unnumbered, you had arrived at the labyrinth. The endless running wore you out. No matter which way you turned, the loop continued. You were alone. Despite your shouts, nobody came. Would you ever be able to escape the labyrinth?
Your head tossed and turned in your sleep as you struggled to comprehend reality. The light on the opposite bedside table was enough to make you stir in your sleep but not enough to wake you up. You were crying out of frustration. A warm touch grabbed your cheek while you felt the sheets shift beside you. Before the silence became more intrusive than your breathing, the bedsheets shuffled. In an attempt to catch your breath, you opened your eyes. Trying to find something familiar in a hurry, your eyes flicker around the room.
"Hey...Hey... It's me... It's Yelena. I got you, you're safe. It's not real." The source of the voice was right in front of your eyes, Yelena. While you lay down on the bed, Yelena sat up beside you, bearing her green eyes longingly on you. There was a sense of guilt about the entire incident. In recent weeks, you had been having lots of nightmares, and Yelena was there every time. To ensure that you fell asleep soundly, she was constantly watching over you. Sometimes she would discuss your dreams with you for hours, unraveling them together. Despite all this, she didn't moan or complain the next day. As long as she knew you slept through the night, she always looked relieved.
"Hey, hey Malishka. What's happened? Another one of your nightmares, hm?" Her voice echoed the tiredness visible in her eyes; her eyes were slowly beginning to trace over the details of your face, searching for an answer to what had upset you. Her eyes were fixed on the salty tears that flowed down your cheek. Slowly she rubbed them with her thumb, not daring to ask what had brought you to tears until she heard from you. Her concern for what happened prompted her to examine you. As you groaned softly, it felt comforting to nestle your cheeks into her hands. With your head tilted into Yelena's hand, you planted a firm kiss on the middle of her palm.
"I'm sorry. Did I wake you, baby? Your voice was hoarse and cracked with exhaustion. Your week of disrupted sleep has resulted in this.
"You never have to be sorry. Don't worry about me. What was it this time? Was it the one about the ocean again?" She whispered, leaning down slowly as she pressed her lips on your forehead. Slowly moving her fingers away from your cheek and into your hair, she began to move her fingers through the strands of your hair. She was soothing you in the best way she could. Her suggestion made you shake your head.
"The falling forever one?"
"It was the one where I was lost."
"Hey, you didn't give me a chance. I was going to guess that one next. You beat me to it."
"You would've got it. It was just that stupid dream where I just couldn't get out, it was an endless loop. It felt like I was never going to wake up."
"Better than the one where you got eaten by the shark."
"Mhm"
"That's okay, baby. I have you now. You're safe with me. You're always safe with me. You know I'd come and find you if you were lost."
"Would you really?"
"Of course I would. No matter where you are, I'd find you and make sure you're safe again."
"My hero. Where would I be without you?"
"You can say that again. I like playing the hero, it suits me. Don't you think? I should get a really sexy suit" The happy Yelena chimed in as she pressed her lips against the tip of your nose, holding them there for a moment."You're sexy even without a suit." She Inched down into the bedsheets, her body was side by side with yours. You could feel the heat radiating from her body. When you slept, you managed to wiggle over to the edge of the bed, and every time, she found you. In her sleep, she wouldn't just hold you close; she protectively held you. Yelena could never sleep in a bed without you.
"Come on, let me hold you, Malyshka. Let me spoon you and get you back to sleep, mhm? Despite Yelena's offer, you knew she was insisting. Her long, toned arms were open, waiting for you to climb into them. Upon entering her arms, your legs laid across hers. As you placed your head against her chest, you could hear her heart beating. Reaching up, you held her tanktop firmly between your fingers. You did this before you fell asleep because you were afraid she would disappear. She was never away from you in the morning except when she went to make you breakfast. Silence comforted you, the only sound coming from her heart relaxing you.
It was her tired voice that grumbled, "My baby girl." You snuggled up to her as she made quiet shushing sounds.
"Don't worry, I'll make the bad dreams go away." No matter what Yelena said, there was always truth in her words. She made them go away. You felt like your life was stable because of her. Yelena's arms made you feel weightless, as though you were floating. You were waiting for her breathing to slow down so you'd know she was falling asleep. You glanced up at Yelena, whose teeth were gritted, her eyes fluttering shut a moment before they opened again to stare at you.
"Aren't you going to sleep, Yelena?"
"I'll stay awake until you've fallen asleep. That way I know you'll be safe."
"I'm safe in your arms. Sleep with me, baby."
