***hello! Pic of Dylan up top!
I ran downstairs to get some alcohol and popcorn while the girls picked out a movie for us to watch. I quickly grabbed three cases of raspberry flavoured drinks and sent them up my room elevator as I tossed three bags of popcorn in the microwave. My parents had not come home yet, probably went out for dinner or something.
I waited impatiently for the popcorn to finish while I stared out the window. Everything just seamed so surreal. Everything was perfect.
Suddenly I saw the bluest eyes I had ever seen in the bushes. I jumped to the floor in surprise and fear. I quickly ran to the knife drawer and picked the sharpest one I could find. My entire body was shaking in fear. Never had I encountered someone watching me. Right then, at sleek grey cat shuffled out of the bushes, carrying the piercing blue eyes. Laughing at how ridiculous I was acting, but still cautious, I set the knife back in the drawer and relaxed. The microwave started beeping, signalling the popcorn was done. I glanced quickly at the clock, seeing it read 8:40pm. I quickly grabbed the popcorn and ran upstairs to hear the girls faint voices arguing back and forth.
"Brooklyn you can't tell her anything! I don't even know why I told you! You couldn't even keep it a secret when I admitted I liked Maddie's stupid chicken or whatever!"
I smiled slightly remembering making the chicken recipe for them and Dani wining that she didn't like it. Still curious as to what they were talking about, I stayed outside the room leaning slightly against my bright red door.
"Dani! Who do you think I am? I've never told a secret of yours!"
"Shake on it?"
"Shake it."
I could then hear the faint sounds of them doing our secret handshake for extremely important secrets. I was irritated that they couldn't tell me whatever the hell this big secret was. They were only supposed to use that handshake when all of us were in on the secret! We never kept secrets!
I quietly backed up and made my steps exaggerated as to show I had just climbed up the stairs. I barged into my room not caring that I interrupted what they were talking about.
"Heeeyy Maddie? What's going on?" Brooklyn asked warily.
"Dylan's just being a perv as always" I lied easily.
"What else is new." Dani spoke with a wink.
We laughed effortlessly, and I relaxed a little.
We had settled on watching the heat for the hundredth time and I soon found myself falling asleep.
****flashback****
"Ted! We will under no circumstances tell the kids!"
I quietly leaned my ear against the door, making sure my parents didn't hear me eavesdropping.
"Tanya, you cannot just say that! We can fix this! We could go get Max back and fix everything! It doesn't have to be this way!"
"You saw what he was Ted! A complete monster! I don't even know him anymore!"
I felt a tap on my shoulder.
"Maddie what are you listening to?" My 7 year old brother asked me.
"Mom and dad are fighting again dilly bar. Lets take you back to bed ok?"
We quietly walked back down the hallway when Dylan sadly questioned
"Are they ever going to stop fighting mads?"
I could feel my heart breaking for my brother. Although he was a only a year younger than me, I had to mature much faster with mom being at work trying to pay our bills and dad always rambling on about different things. I was always taking care of Dylan and helping him with his homework.
I tucked Dylan into bed snugly with a small smile.
"I hope so dilly. I hope so."
***** present *****
I woke up on my floor with a mild headache. Empty Mike's lemonade bottles were scattered all over my room. I glanced at the clock, seeing it read 3:27AM. My TVs brightly lit screen was playing a movie with a name I could not think of. I finally realized the reason for my awakening was my iPhone 6 ringing without end. I quickly picked it up then went into the on suite. I vividly remembered the dream I just had and shivers ran down my spine. This was the first time I had ever dreamt of something in the past and I wasn't sure if I wanted to relive any of it. I brushed it off and quickly answered the non stop ringing coming from my iPhone.
"Hello?" I said almost annoyed at who would be calling at this ungodly hour.
"You can't fight it Maddie." The unknown voice on the other end replied.
"Who the hell is this? I swear if this is Dylan I will rip your head off."
The line went dead as I huffed and anger. I quickly exited my on suite and proceeded to Dylan's room across the long hallway. An eerie silence hanging in the air as I walked as fast I could. I shivered, not liking the noise free building.
With our old apartment there was always noise. Normally horny teenagers coming from parties to get some action.
When I arrived at Dylan's door, I had calmed down slightly and had the decency to knock on the door before I stormed in.
No answer.
I knocked again louder this time.
Annoyed that he didn't even have the decency to make a little squeak, I opened the door harshly expecting him to be sitting in his bed watching tv, but surprise invaded my emotions as his room was completely empty and his window slightly ajar.
I walked in his room and quickly shut the window, shivering from the cold winter air that had came threw the window. I quickly texted Dylan asking where he was, but earned no response. I shrugged, too tired to over think anything, and in my tired state, I didn't lock the window, n'or did I wait for dylan to text me back.
Little did I know, that window, was about to change everything.
