The accident

Once again, I woke up way too early. I turned my head to find the girls already up. I stood up slowly and literally jumped of my bed, a habit of mine since 8th grade. I pulled down my scrunched up spandex and tucked tanners shirt into my shorts. I had worn this shirt to bed ever since tanner and I had officially started dating. The only time I didn't wear it was when it was being washed, or when I would give it to him to wear and leave his dreamy scent all over it.

I slipped my feet into my slippers, pulled my hair into a messy bun and made my way down the stairs to come face to face with my mom looking extremely exhausted.

"Mom are you okay?" I asked worriedly.

"Yes honey I'm fine I guess. Your father is just getting on my nerves. I think I'm just going to go get changed and head over to the spa honey." she said kissing my forehead.

I couldn't shake the queasiness in my stomach that this had something to do with the arguing mom and dad used to always do. That was the last time I had seen her so stressed.

I woke up to my mother shaking me slightly.

"Mummy?" I asked sleepily. "what's going on?"

She smiled sadly and started talking softly. I noticed that she didn't look anywhere near as exhausted as usual.

"Mads, we have some news. Grandpa died last night."

"Are you sad mummy?" I asked worriedly.

"I'm going to be fine honey. My dad has left us some money sweetie."

"How much money mum?" I asked curiously.

"Enough money to last us a long time honey. Everything is going to be okay now." My mom said as she cried silently on my shoulder.

I knew mum and grandpa didn't have the best relationship, and they fought a lot but I knew she loved him. I couldn't imagine loosing my dad.

I held mom tight as the tears slid down her cheeks, pressed tight against my shocked body.

As I relived the memory in my head I started to remember more bits and pieces from that day. It was a week before Christmas, and grandma had just died the month before. I remember turning 13 in October before everything changed. I had received my first cellphone. I remember it being a pink flip phone that everyone had at the time. I was weary to accept the gift, because we didn't have that much money, but mum just kept assuring me that everything was going to be okay.

I shook my head of the dreary thoughts and made my way to the kitchen because the smell of bacon was overwhelming my senses. I was almost drooling by the time I stepped into the kitchen, faintly smelling French toast being made.

I heard Brooklyn laughing obnoxiously at a joke Dani made but I couldn't quite make it out. I crepped in the kitchen quietly then jumped out right behind Dani, making her flip some French toast on the roof. We all laughed hysterically at her reaction gasping for air until we had tears coming out of our eyes. We finally calmed down and started eating out breakfast. I devoured mine, as I forgot to eat supper with all of the unpacking of my closet.

"Maddie slow down you're eating like a pig!" Dani yelled trying to grab some French toast for herself. Since Dani didn't like bacon, she was eating as much French toast as she could take from my grasp.

"Speaking of pigs, wheres Dylan?" Brooklyn managed to say through her mouth full of food.

I choked on my food remembering Dylan had not been in his room the night before. I started coughing furiously, as the bits of French toast flew out of my mouth. I pretended as if I had never choked as I quickly dialled Dylan's number in my phone and waited for him to pick up. The phone rang till he picked it up answering me with a groggy hello.

"Dylan! Where the hell are you!" I yelled into the phone.

"Calm down sis. I'm at Jaedyns. He needed some help with his bike last night so I went over without telling you, not wanted to disturb you night with your friends." He replied calmly.

I immediately felt bad and started to apologize when he said

"Maddie it's fine. I should have texted you and told you. I'll be home right away."

"Ok see you soon Dylan." I quickly walked away as I added "and umm, be careful around mum and dad. I don't think they are on good terms right now."

"Maddie!" He said sternly.

I knew what he was thinking. it couldn't go back to how it was before. Ever.

"I know Dylan. Mum is going to spend a day at the spa and dad is at work now. Everything will be fine. I promise.

"Okay see you soon mad dawg."

I could practically feel his smirk through the phone as I replied with a quick shut up then hung up.

Brooklyn and Dani took the hint that I didn't want to talk more about it and decided we should have the boys over for the day then go to a movie, as we had school tomorrow and it was the last day of February break.

We quickly showered and put a minimal amount of makeup on as we blared Marina and The Diamonds, Fifth Harmony, Beyoncé, Lana, and Nicki. We were dancing like maniacs and nocking everything over when the doorbell rang, signalling the boys were here.

They stepped inside giving us each a peck on the forehead or the cheek. As tanner gave me a hug I smiled feeling small sparks at the simple form of affection. I looked up to find him staring and smiling at me too and I blushed, my cheeks bright pink.

"Hello beautiful." He spoke into my hair making me shiver at his raspy voice.

"Hi Tanny!" I replied childishly patting his 6'4" tall head. Tanners height was one of the things that drew me towards him, besides his reputation. Even though I was ringing in at a height of 5'10, tanner was still really tall compared to me.

He laughed and pinched my bum making me squeal and run to the couch. I sat down and wrapped myself in a blanket as the rest of the crew came to join me. I sat myself on Tanners lap and rested my hair in the crook of his shoulder. He hummed slightly as he played with my hair.

The next few hours were spent laughing, playing board games and taking pictures and videos.
When it finally came time to go see the movie we were ready quickly. Tanner and I went in my camaro, Brook with Jaedyn, and Dani with Matt.

As I sat down at the drivers wheel the feeling of excitement rushed through me that I got every time I raced. I revved my engine and waited for Tanner to buckle up. Finally, I sped off onto the road. I increased my speed the closer we got to the theatre. I had somehow managed to lose everyone else and no one else was on the road so I sped up even more.

"Maddie, be careful babe." Tanner said jokingly.

"I'd never hurt you Tanner." I said as I leaned over to peck him on the cheek.

When I turned my head back to the road, a big black figure stood in the middle of the road. I tried ferociously to turn the wheel but I was going to fast. The car flipped in mid air, I screamed at the top of my lungs, then everything went black.
