FOUR MONTHS LATER

Maya's POV: I wake up to an empty bed. I walk into the kitchen, where Carina is making french toast. I walk up behind her, and push my head past her thick dark hair to kiss her neck.

"Good morning Maya! How did you sleep bambina?" she asks.

"Well, I slept well, but judging by how much french toast you have made, it looks like you didn't sleep as well," I say, rubbing her back. "Are you okay babe?"

"Yes, of course, just nervous. We find out if we are having a baby today, and I woke up early because I wanted to surprise you with breakfast, but I got a bit carried away." She says.

I smile. A few weeks ago, Carina was implanted with a sperm donation, and today is the day that we can try a pregnancy test and find out if we are having a baby.

"Aw, Carina, there is nothing to worry about. Even if it didn't work, we can try again. We will have a baby. It might not be right now, but we will have one," I say. I slide my arms around her waist, and they rest on her stomach. She smiles over her shoulder at me, and I cup her face in my hands as I kiss her softly.

We sit at the table, and start eating the french toast. Carina rests her head on my shoulder, and I sling my arm across her back.

Carina's POV: I go into the bathroom, and pee on a strip of plastic that could change my life forever. I wash my hands, then I walk out to the living room, where Maya is standing. "it said it would take a few minutes, so we just have to wait. I set a timer for 5 minutes. Then we can flip it over. I just want you to know that I love you bambina," I say, and I sit on the couch next to Maya, and I tuck my legs up close to me and lean into her.

"I love you too Carina. I am so glad I found you. You are the piece of my heart I never knew was missing. When I met you, my heart was whole. We are in this for good. Me and you, and maybe a baby, maybe not. All I know is that you are a part of me I can never lose. I love you." Maya says.

As tears start coming down my cheeks, my phone buzzes with the alarm. I shut it off, and wipe the tears from my eyes as I turn to Maya.

"On three?" I ask. "Yes." She says

"Uno, due, tre," We say. Maya has been learning Italian, and has been practicing whenever she can. We flip over the plastic, and I start crying again.

PREGNANT

"Maya, we are having a baby!" I say, and I hug her.

Maya laughs, and we spin around, almost knocking over some of my art. We eventually flop down onto the bed and I roll over on top of her and I kiss her. "Maya we are having a baby we are going to be moms!" I say.

"We are. We are going to be way better than our dads. Maybe that's why this is going to work! Because there is no men!" Maya jokes.

I kiss her again. "We will be way better than our dads. This baby will be lucky to have you Maya." I say, and I sit in front of her, her arms around me, my head leaning into her.

"I love you Carina,"

"I love you too bambina."
