Lucas was a 19 year old man, who lived in Missouri. Though, he wasn't born there, the orphanage found it was the only place to put him.
Lucas was in Missouri State University. The college that felt bad enough for the poor boy, and decided to take him in. They figured a good education would get him back on his feet. Though he wasn't allowed to have a high class dorm and they wouldn't pay for his meals.
Lucas got up as his alarm clock rang, at 6:45am. Lucas moaned, slamming his arm over to turn off the blaring sound. As he sat up, he looked himself in the mirror, and he didn't like what he seen.
His brown hair grew down over the side of his face. He was skinny, wearing black gym shorts. He let out a sigh as he stood up. He moped over to his closet, as he opened it he shrugged at the very little clothes inside. He put on a white shirt, black ripped to shred jeans, and the jacket he always wore. Completely black with CTFXC wrote in bold white letters across the chest.
He got the jacket as a gift from his only friend, who got adopted at the orphanage.
Lucas went and packed his bag, making sure his homework was done. He never did it right, even though he knew all the answers. He swung his bag over his shoulder, and walked downstairs.
He walked down to college, not having a car or a friend to drive him. As he walked down the sidewalk he always got noticed by a few kids from college. They either laughed and called him L, or turned their heads and ran.
L was his nickname. Some said it stood for Lucas. But others knew it meant loser.
As he got into the building. His head went down. He knew better then to act like he meant something here. "How are you today, L?" Mocked Peter, the red headed football quarterback. He slammed his palm on the locker next to Lucas' face. Lucas turned his head but didn't walk away. He knew better.
Peter chuckled, his breath reeked. Peter went to speak, but the bell rang. "You got lucky. L." He said as he pushed Lucas against the lockers.
Lucas flinched as he did. Lucas let out a relieved sigh and almost ran down the hall to get to class. He sat down in the corner of the room and waited for the rest of the class. Emily walked into class and looked at him. He doesn't look happy, she thought.
Emily was a new girl to the school, having no idea that Lucas was considered a complete outcast.
She walked up to him and set a pack of gum on his desk, that only had 2 pieces left inside. She sat down in the desk next to him. "Having a bad day?" She smiled. Lucas frowned when she talked to him. He glanced at the gum on his desk and picked it up and put it on her desk. "What?" She raised her eyebrows. "Don't like the flavour? Or do you just not like gum at all?" She rubbed his back, trying to be comforting. Lucas shrugged. That was the first time anyone here had tried to be nice to him, so he tried to do more then just ignore her.
"Good morning class." Professor Franklin said as he slammed the door shut for their attention. "Today we'll be starting a project, and I'll be assigning your partners." He smirked at the class groaned.
He went down the list of students, partnering them up at random. Halfway through the partners, Lucas heard his name. "Lucas and.. Um.. Emily. You guys will work together." "What are the chances!" Emily giggled as she looked over at him. Lucas' frown grew deeper as he heard that. He was hoping to get with someone who wouldn't care about him, so he would have an excuse not to talk.
