<Esteemed Dr. Edwards, some time ago you convinced me to desist from requesting the transfer, claiming that my help in the cases we are following is necessary for you. I am felt flattered and encouraged by your words and I did it all I could to give you my full cooperation.
However, at this moment I believe that you and I can no longer work together on these cases. The treatments you have decided to carry out do not have the my approval, although I do not have the arrogance to contradict your medical opinion.
My trust in you remains unchanged, but I cannot take part in these treatments no more.
I am sad to make such a decision, however I must act according to my conscience.
And there is something else: I have been thinking on what you said about the importance for the patients to find a partner, to improve their health condition and, since the difficulty of finding male partner in the village, I decided to make my wife one of the patients, Miss Warren.
I assure you that I have always kept with Miss Warren a behavior according with the grounds of my profession and never met her in private.
However, having reached the age to get a wife, I have decided that it would be the right solution for both me and miss Warren.
Which is why I don't think I can continue as doctor here.
So I resign and I'll let you know when my transfer application will be accepted.
I am certain you will do a great job with the patients and I will be always available to you for a consultation, if you'll think it would be appropriate to ask me for.
In faith,
Dr. Henry Wood>.
<Dearest Lucy, this time I have good news: I have received an engagement proposal. Dr. Wood came to my place the other day to speak to my mother and he asked the permission to date with me.
That surprised me, since we hadn't spoken to each other after that time we kissed.
He says he has resigned as the village's doctor and has requested for the transfer. That means that if I'll marry him I'll be finally able to leave this village and I won't have to do those absurd medical treatments no more.
You know, I am relieved for the opportunity to leave this village and see new places.
The day before yesterday I met Liam and I told him we cannot meet anymore because I'm about to get engaged; he said he was sad, but also he understands my reasons.
However, there's not only good news: I got a complain for having played the violin again. They told me if I'll do it again Dr. Edwards will intensify the treatment.
Anyway this situation will be for a little while longer... I want to get married as soon as possible and move from here.
Yesterday our classmates spoke to me and Michelle and they said something that surprised me: they too want to meet Liam and Samuel.
Michelle and I have talked and we figured out that they too should have the opportunity to make the same experiences as we did.
So we arranged to meet with the boys in the usual place.
Speaking with our friends, Liam and Samuel told us they are available to do it, but that day they just kissed each other.
About me, I will never see Liam again; I want to dedicate my time to get to know Dr. Wood better.
Instead Michelle's belly is getting bigger day by day.
Since that absurd treatment has began, the oddities are more than before.
Luckily if I'll get married I will leave soon!
I'll keep you informed.
Greetings to the family,
Florence>.
<October 28, 1977. Dr. R. Edwards.
A singular event occurred yesterday: Dr Wood and I have been called at the home of one of the patients, Michelle, who was claiming to have pains.
The girl was convinced she was about to give birth.
During the visit we did not find any cause of the pains she claimed, therefore we came to the conclusion it was an "hysterical pregnancy".
We've given her a sedative and we are keeping her under observation. Luckily the belly's swelling is decreasing.
Today I asked the other two patients to play their instruments first all together and then separately and there was none of the previous symptoms, it is a signal that the treatment has begun to give results.
I started to decrease the frequency of the treatments to once in a week.
Unfortunately I have lost Dr. Wood's cooperation, since he has decided to ask for the transfer.
But I am optimistic about the results we are achieving.
I also asked for the reintegration of the three patients in the school.
In this place I have seen things that I wasn't prepared for, despite my years of experience... no one should live in this forsaken place>.
