I run inside as fast as I can hoping that whatever I saw earlier was just some freak accident or not real, but I didn't want to take the chance. As soon as I made it through the front door, I heard my mom crying in pain. I guess Xander must have heard my mom because he came, running into the house almost immediately. I see the guy running out the back door and he flies across the room, oops, he quickly gets up and takes off. I find my mom in the main room, on the floor with her back against one of the couches. She has her hand pressed around her neck trying to slow the bleeding. It's probably too late judging by all the blood on the floor, and I'm no doctor but that looks like way too much blood to lose.

I walk over to her, my eyes teary. Though I'm trying to be strong, strong for her. She turns her head slowly to look at me and we lock eyes. Keeping one hand on her neck, she slowly removes the other and reaches for me. I sit down slowly next to her and take her open hand, ignoring all of the blood. This is not the time to be grossed out by all the blood. I feel the warm and thick blood on my hand that came from her hand. My mom lifts her head ever so slightly as if to want to tell me something.

"You need to find your father," she whispers and her voice is cracking.

Squeezing my hand she continues, "Take Xander with you and get out of here, don't waste time mourning for me, and stay safe. Y-your ab-abilities, keep them out of the wrong hands, and m-most of all-- d-don't become the wrong hands. You will learn more about your father, but don't let that stop you from finding him. He is not the way that some say."

I see Xander in the kitchen watching, probably listening too.

"Now hurry Lex, pack a duffel, take all of my savings in my closet, and have Xander do the same. Y-you need t-to get to s-safety and find your f-father. And please r-remember, do not become t-the wrong h-hands."

I hear her become silent as her last breath leaves her mouth, and her hand becomes stiff. Xander comes up behind me and holds my other hand. "The ambulance is on its way, we have to hurry." I reluctantly stood up and quickly washed my hands in the kitchen. Xander makes his way to his own home quickly and packs his duffel. I make my way to my room, pack some clothes, grab some pocket knives, a mini first-aid kit, and run to the kitchen to grab some food. After this, I make my way to my mom's room and find an envelope in her closet with money. As I'm packing my bags, I'm processing my mom's words in my head. About not believing what people say about my dad and not becoming the wrong hands. I couldn't figure out what that meant.

When Xander comes back, I see that he has a few knives as well and a stack of money. We lock eyes for a few seconds before he walks over to me and takes my hand. "We have to go now," he whispers. We walk out of the house and make our way to the alley that we have to take to get to school. When I see the ambulance coming, both Xander and I run for the first place we can think of. Ron's house. Ron is a drug dealer with a large home about 1 mile from the alley.

Yes I know, "he's a drug dealer, what the hell are you running to him for!?" So Ron isn't exactly someone you would think of hanging out with at first glance but he helped Xander and I a while back so right now he's just somewhere to go for a little bit while we decide what to do. Ron used to be a detective and he went undercover as a drug dealer, but something went wrong and he got stuck undercover or something like that. I was honestly a little confused when I heard his story but it doesn't really matter right now.

Xander and I come to a stop as we see Ron's house. It is quite big and modern. Come to think, it's a REALLY nice house. Xander and I look at each other and walk to the front door of the house. Xander rings the doorbell. At first, nobody answers the door but after about a minute, we see Ron from one of the windows rushing to answer the door. Ron is tall and muscular, he has dark hair and silver eyes.
