Chapter 3:

Zylen’s P.O.V

I was so anxious to see Harley the next day, my wolf was impatient, demanding that I claim her as mine so that other wolves couldn’t have her. I didn’t want to do that yet, I just wanted to see her. My palms were sweaty as I headed into school that morning, and I had to keep my wolf under extra control as I headed to the English lesson we shared. It wasn’t that I was scared, actually hell I was terrified, I didn’t know how to be a good mate, so how was I suppose to deal with this. I’d been raging an internal war with myself all evening previously about whether I keep my wolf under control or let him run wild and do what come instinctively to him. I decided that leaving him in a tight chain and not allowing him free seemed the best option. I didn’t know what was going on with me and Harley, hell I’d only met the girl yesterday I needed to get to know her better. I needed to know how she could be my mate yet smell 100% human. And this is how I came to be standing outside my English class my heart pounding and my palms sweaty for the first time in years, anxious to see Harley. ‘God she has a hold on me without even trying, I’m so doomed’ I thought to myself as I went and took my usual seat at the back of the class. Only this time I didn’t put my head on the table to snooze like I usually did, no I stared avidly at the door, awaiting her arrival.

The first bell went, and she didn’t arrive. After the second bell sounded and Kalix walked in without Harley I became alarmed. ‘Where the hell was she?’ I thought anxiously. I looked at Kalix and she turned to me and shrugged, shooting me a sorry look. I just nodded and laid my head on the table in frustration. ‘How could you let her escape’ my wolf growled at me. ‘If you’d of let me be in control, this would never have happened’ he growled. I just snarled at my own wolf and tried to focus on what Mr Taran was saying, but it was no use. Every time I tried to focus, I kept thinking about Harley and wondering where she was, why she wasn’t here and hoping she was okay. By the end of the two hour lesson I was a complete wreck and so when the bell rang, I stormed out not paying attention to Kalix when she shouted after me.

Kalix found me pacing the field outside the gym about half and hour later. I growled at her when she approached. “Oh stop it!” she hissed as she approached. I just ignored her and continued pacing. “Zylen! For god sake stop god damn pacing!” she practically screamed at me. I growled and she pounced, holding me to the wall. I knew I was stronger than her but I didn’t bother fighting her. “You need to get a hold of yourself Zylen, you can’t carry off this way just because Harley hasn’t turned up. Just because your wolf said she’s your mate…well newsflash you and your wolf are not completely the same, control him!” she snarled in my face. I was shell shocked, I was the future alpha of my pack, and here I was being told of by one of the lesser females of the pack. I shrunk back in shame. I shouldn’t have needed Kalix to control me like this, I should have been able to control myself. “I’m sorry Kalix” I muttered. “I can understand your wolf’s frustrated and you yourself will be feeling the loneliness now you have found her but aren’t with her straight away, but you can’t deal with it in this way.” She said softly, her expression softening to one of worry and pity. She was sorry for me. My wolf growled at her pity. I understood it. “I don’t know what to do” I sighed in defeat. “I know, I know” she said softly, soothing my back. It felt nice, but deep down I knew it should have been my mate here soothing my frustrations and worries not Kalix, but I was thankful she was here for me all the same.  “Come on Zylen, let’s get you through the rest of the day. She will probably be back tomorrow and then you can deal with everything then” Kalix said softly, heading back towards the main building. I nodded and followed, desperately hoping she was right, but having that sinking feeling that I wouldn’t be seeing Harley tomorrow either.
