Chapter 11

Unknown P.O.V

“I may seem crazy, or painfully shy. And these scar’s wouldn’t be so hidden if you would just look me in the eye” I sung along to the song that gets me through everything “Cut” by Plumb. It related to me so well. When I first heard it I thought it was made just for me, it was when I was 16 and my mother died, it was playing on the radio, ironically the day my “father” first hit me and the first time I ran a knife across my wrist. Now I played it continuously on my iPod. Tapping my hand on the steering wheel as the song changed to “Anything could happen” by Ellie Goulding, I suddenly felt nervous. ‘What if she wants nothing to do with me and turns me away?’ I thought, suddenly scared of rejection by someone I hadn’t even met yet. I sighed and slowed down, knowing the turning I needed was coming up soon.

As I pulled onto what I assumed was a long drive way I noticed that it wound deep into the very green forest and I felt overwhelmed, claustrophobic and free all at the same time. It was a strange sensation to say the least. Stopping the car, I stared at my reflection in the mirror. Excitement and nervousness danced through my dark blue eyes and my black hair fell in loose waves down my back. Sighing I decided it was now or never, so I slowly got out of the car and looked up at the house. Well I say house but it was more like a mansion. It was huge and rather posh, I panicked suddenly feeling very out of place. ‘behave yourself!’ I chided before heading with a new determination for the front door.

I knocked softly and backed away slightly, hoping from one foot to the other, nerves getting the better of me. ‘I wonder if she will answer, will she recognise me? Will she accept me?’ I thought as I worried my bottom lip awaiting someone to answer the door. She’s not going to answer I panicked and while I went through a state of emotional turmoil the door opened and I looked up quickly to see a man staring at me. He was amazing. He was a solid wall of muscle and a lot taller than me but then I was short to be honest I would of said he was about 6ft 2". He had a mop of brown hair that fell over one eye and defined cheek bones. I blushed knowing I must look like a gormless idiot. “Erm, hey” I said nervously, my voice giving me away. “Harley?” he said, hoping lighting up his bright grey eyes. Before I had chance to respond I was engulfed in a hug and he was kissing my forehead. “Oh my god I thought I’d lost you” he whispered in my ear and I shuddered. You could feel the force of his love for this Harley, it was obvious in his eyes. ‘Harley must be my sister’ I thought thinking she had an awesome name. Then realising this guy still had hold of me and was looking at me strangely. I tried to back up but his arms held me tight. “Erm…I’m not…I’m not Harley” I stuttered. I watched as his face formed into one of pain and confusion before he held my gaze and I was caught up in the brightness of his grey eyes. ‘what the hell is wrong with me’ I thought. “Don’t tease me Harley!” he said his eyes scanning over my body. I shivered as his eyes swept over my whole body. “I’m not, I am not Harley!” I said suddenly rather annoyed that he wouldn’t believe me. “Now let me go!” I demanded trying to remove his hands. He let me go and stared. “You can’t fool me Harls! I know what you look like!” he purred. I shivered before understanding dawned. He thought I was Harley because I probably looked like her, we were twins afterall. I best put him straight. “I am not Harley. I am looking for her. Where is she?” I asked timidly. I watched as he looked at me confused. “She isn’t here” he suddenly said defensively and backing away from me. My body relaxed as he stepped away. “Who are you?” I asked him ask, his tone blunt and cold all of a sudden and I dropped my head with the force of it. “I’m Harley’s twin sister, though I’m not sure she knows I exist, I know I didn’t know of her existence until over a day ago.” I watched as he digested this. Uncertainty lined his features. “Harley isn’t here, she left we haven’t been able to locate her yet” he said and I could see the pain and hurt in his eyes even though it was clear he was trying to hide it. “She never mentioned having a sister, but she wasn’t the most open person” he shrugged. “So what’s your name?” he asked suddenly. I felt nervous all of a sudden, like by somehow giving this strange man who clearly loved my sister my name was tying me silently to something I was completely unaware of. “Layla” I said softly. “Nice to meet you Layla” he said softly. I smiled and watched as he moved aside and allowed me into the house. I had a feeling of uncertainty set over me once more and wondered where my sister had gone. I looked back at the man who’s name I still didn’t get. “Erm, who are you?” I asked softly afraid to offend him as he gave off an air of dominance that seemed to demand respect. “Zylen” he said simply and I nodded. ‘strange name’ I thought but kind of fitting to be honest, he seems a strange sort of guy. I blushed and looked around nervously. “come on I will get you settled into one of the guest rooms, then we will talk” he said simply and began to head up the stairs and I followed not sure of what else to do. ‘ I guess I can ask my questions later’ I thought as I followed behind Zylen.
