“Two grilled cheeses, please, Granny. Or your precious Savior may very well decide to murder me in my sleep.”
A harried-looking Regina Mills propped herself on one elbow up at the bar of Granny’s diner. Granny, giving the younger woman a sympathetic - but - not - unhumorous glance, called out for Red to fill her order.
“Aww, is the poor whipped wifeypoo come back to fulfill her wife’s cravings?” Red called.
“Can it, pup,” Regina snarled, her temper on-edge with lack of sleep. Red gave her a salute and busied herself with the grilled cheese sandwiches.
Granny parked herself across from Regina, her expression gentler than Regina had ever seen her.
“Emma doing okay?” she asked. “We don’t exactly have a precedence for this sort of pregnancy, so naturally we’re all concerned for her…”
“She’s fine, apart from the cravings and the increased cattiness,” Regina replied sharply, prompting a snort from Red.
“Not sure that’s the pregnancy,” Red said.
“She’s always been that way. It’s just...blown up, so to speak.” Regina said.
Red handed a paper bag to Granny, who passed it to Regina. “Best go feed your wife before she decides to use the entire town as a phone charger,” she said with a twitch of a smile.
Regina knocked at the door of her mansion. Mary Margaret opened the door, looking relieved at her return.
“Emma! Your grilled cheese is here!” she called.
“What am I, chopped liver?” Regina responded as she followed Mary Margaret to where a very pregnant Emma lay on their couch, watching The Little Mermaid.
Emma’s face curved into a smile as she caught sight of her wife. She tried to haul herself to her feet, but Regina stopped her, laying her back and pressing her lips to Emma’s.
Emma grasped her face, returning the gesture. An eternally awkward Mary Margaret set the grilled cheeses on the glass table before them and made a hasty exit to the kitchen.
“Yes, you want her. Look at her you know you do,” that stupid animated crab sang in the background as Regina broke their kiss and sat back, setting to rubbing Emma’s sore back. The blonde woman arched her spine, making little sounds of relief that softened even Regina’s hard heart.
“How’s the baby?” Regina asked, even as she felt something move within her wife’s belly, which was pressed up against her own.
Emma smiled. “Oh, you know, plotting world domination. They start early.”
“Ha, ha. Smartass.” Regina said.
Emma narrowed her eyes. “You know you love it.”
“Why d’ya think I married you?”
Emma shrugged. “My good looks, my pure-of-heartness?”
Regina kissed her again. “Think again, Swan.”
“Go on and kiss the girl!”
