Approaching him would be the hardest part. She hadn't even told him and she could already see the heartbreak dripping down his face. There he sat, peacefully before the fireplace, gazing off into the blistering flames. They painted movement on his face, the shadows dancing wildly on his exposed skin. Every now and then, the young man would lift his drink to his lips and savor the alcohol on his tongue.

"D-Dream?" She stammered, breaking him from the trance he was sucked in. His strikingly colored eyes locked into hers, though they didn't look normal. They were clouded over by the brewing storm of alcohol- he had clearly been drinking more than enough. "I needed to talk to you about something."

"Then speak."

"T-there's no easy way for me to put this and I've been dreading to tell you," The words ran off her tongue without any ounce of control; she was always a speedy talker when she was nervous. "But this day was destined to come one day."

He didn't say anything. He simply questioned her with his expression; his brow fell into a confused frown while the grin on his lips turned upside down.

"I want my own house, Dream." It was her dream for a while. When she was little, she would always imagine having a small house in the middle of an abandoned forest. It would be cozy and it would fit her perfectly- it was the place she could call home. Living with three other boys wasn't exactly what she had planned for.

"What-" Her companion's face scrunched up into a bitter look of betrayal. He appeared as though she had just stabbed a knife straight into his back. This was not a topic he would take in lightly.

"Please don't be mad. I-I love living here with you, George, and Sapnap but-"

"No. You're not leaving." Dream snapped sternly. He stood up in a fit of anger, clutching his bottle tightly in his fist. As he brushed past Y/N, she could see his knuckles were changing shades. It was like he was holding onto his drink for dear life.

"I want to be independent." She shouted before Dream could disappear. Y/N would continue to argue, not letting her friend slip through her fingers.

He halted suddenly. "Independent?" The word fell from his tongue as though he hated to say it. He turned on his heel slowly, dangerously. Anger was ablaze in his eyes, it seemed to sparkle brighter than the fireplace. The two friends stood, opposing one another, simply separated by the feeling of fear. Dream was scared of Y/N leaving but Y/N was scared of staying forever. Neither of them understood why the other was so upset. Dream cleared his throat, breaking the silence. "No. You won't leave."

"Please-"

"My answer was already no!" Crash. The bottle was no longer in his hands. Instead, it was laying on the floor, smashed into a thousand pieces. Shards were shattered everywhere, splayed out in chaos mostly under Dream's boots. The intoxicating liquid was a puddle under the sharp pieces of glass and it was dripping. Dripping? Following the falling droplets, Y/N could tell they led to the center of Dream's hand. Across his palm was a large, bloody scar.

"Dream," Y/N rushed forward, reaching for his injured hand. "You're hurt." He instantly yanked himself away.

"You want to be independent?" With the same bleeding hand, he reached down to his hip. Y/N followed closely, seeing that he was reaching for the diamond sword in his hilt. He revealed the long, sparkling blade and pointed the sharp edge towards the girl. "Then fight for it."

2 months later...

The house was everything she dreamed about. Y/N lived in the middle of an untouched woodland, her only company were the towers of trees. Though it may have been a lonely option for many, it was perfect for her. After years of living with loud boys, silence was the thing keeping her sane. However, the story of gaining such a perfect house was a hurtful one. Perhaps she would tell it for another time.

Opening up the windows to the kitchen to watch the setting sun, she let out a loud sigh. The sky was a deep orange and was slowly fading into an unpromising blue. Y/N leaned onto her window pane, her chin resting on her palm.

The flowers sitting outside of her windows fluttered in the gentle breeze, opening their petals to welcome the coming night. Y/N could feel herself tiring, her eyelids became heavy with the feeling of sleep. The sensation didn't last long.

Suddenly, there was a thrashing knock at her door. Y/N jumped in her seat, fear pulsing through her system. She hesitated for a second. Knowing that she was the only one who lived out here, another wave of fear wracked through her body. Her heart was beating so fast she wondered if it was going to break out of her rib cage.

Y/N neared her door and slowly twisted off the lock. She opened the door to find a very tall stranger wobbling before her. He looked as though never learned how to walk; he was wavering back and forth on unbalanced feet. The man was holding his side with a bloodied hand and his face was holding up a pained expression. Something had tried to kill him. He fell forward into her, mumbling the words, "Help me, please help me."
