The sun rises over the Bay of San Francisco. Small waves crash onto a bed of white sand intertwined with the ruins. Trees glimmer in the sunlight and rattle in the silent wind. Songbirds sing their quiet tones and whistles, and frogs croak their deep song. Small dune grasses sway in the early morning air. Nearby, the second generation of new humans bask in dawns light, before starting a long days work cycle. To them, little is thought of arbitrary time systems, the sun, moon, and stars is all they need. For when they wake they will begin work tending to their fields of fruit and vegetables, and orchards lined with herbs and ground nuts. They will also tend to the environment around them, spreading the growth of the nearby redwood forests and retaking the nearly thousand year old ruins that surround them. In the distance the sun rises, they look to see it rise above the once great Golden Gate Bridge, however now it's rusted and falling apart. Overhead a bright green streak outshines the sun for a small moment, simply a satellite burning up in orbit, a fairly common occurrence.
"Terrence!" shouts Anthony, "Get over here!"
Terrence comes trotting over as Anthony relays the groups plan to travel east. Of the roughly four hundred people in the group, fifty would head east. With them they'd take excess seed stocks and embryos, and would trade artifacts with those along the way. Their goal, however, was to source some endangered seeds from the Genebank in Yosemite, which they could spread among the redwood forest. Terrence, delighted by the idea, decides to join them.
