☾ chapter one: "angel"

Letting his fingertips run over the edge of the glass as he stood there leaning against the white wall, gaze shifting from face to face in a way too crowded house party thrown by one of his vague high school friends.

Ross had been enjoying himself tonight by just wandering around Daniel's house, the place a little too crowded for his liking. He didn't complain, there were loads of people he hadn't seen in a while after he moved back from California to Los Angeles.

"You've been zoning out quite a whole dude," Rocky spoke up, nudging the side of his younger brother as he appeared next to Ross, "What's on your mind?"

Ross sighed softly before pinching the bridge of his nose, straitening his posture. "I haven't seen her around yet."

Long, dark brown wavy hair framing her angelic shaped face, the heat rising to her apple cheeks whenever he'd compliment her or when his hands rested on her waist as they danced to music in the living room. Honey eyes always looked back at him curiously, lighting up whenever he'd call her by her nickname while she was occupied with her college work.

Hayden Lawrence had always clouded his mind ever since they had to say goodbye after Ross wanted to pursue his musical career along with his brother Rocky- their chances of working with well known producers much higher if they'd be close to their connections in California.

It meant Ross had to leave the girl he was dating at that time, his career taking off was something he always dreamed about. She had supported him in whatever he did, and this time there was no difference. Hayden had even brought the brothers to the airport and told them the best of luck, even if she wanted Ross to stay and look for whatever they could be.

It was all of this combined that made her linger in his mind. She was respectful, down to earth, supportive, but most of all- she loved Ross for who he was and the person he was becoming.

Ross hadn't seen her in about a year, the eleven months of creating music and trying to entertain their small group of fans took away loads of his free time and it caused the relationship he had with Hayden to slide a little bit.

She would send him supportive texts whenever he had a gig, comment on his posts and sharing them to show how proud she was of him. But eventually, whenever Ross was too busy to respond- she didn't anymore.

Ross guessed it must've been hard to see how he was living his dream and he left her all alone, shattered and broken.

Rocky and Ross had moved back to Los Angeles after a year, deciding it was best for them to get back to their safe haven while trying to write their debut album. The life in California was great, but living in Los Angeles obviously had its perks.

Ross nearly choked on the strong liquor he threw back once he saw one of his perks making her way towards the middle of the dance floor, hand tangled together with Danna, one of her best friends.

"Speaking of the devil," Rocky grinned, "Or well, in your case, angel."

Ross took a deep breath before he placed his glass down and rubbed his eyes twice to make sure he was seeing her for real, and it wasn't just his imagination making things up. When it was clear Hayden had indeed entered the room, Ross felt his hands getting clammy and he damned himself because he was getting to nervous.

He was never really nervous, not even when he first laid eyes on Hayden. Ross was straight to the point, and if he wanted something, he would make sure he'd get it at some point.

The fact that he was getting nervous to talk to her made Ross feel like he should've handled things differently. He should've visited her on his free weekends, or schedule FaceTime appointments here and there to check up on her.

His heart stopped dead in its tracks once he came back to reality as he saw Hayden was currently making her way towards him. She was wearing a white silk dress, the color of the material a beautiful contrast with her olive colored skin.

She sent him a big grin once she approached him, and it caused Ross to feel himself smile as well. He licked his dry lips and before he could comprehend what was going on and how he was supposed to act around her, they were already embracing each other in a tight hug.

Hayden chuckled, and that's when Ross felt all of the weight fall of his shoulders. The sound made him feel at home and ease and he couldn't help but wrap his arms tighter around him, his chin now resting on top of her head.

"I didn't expect to see you here, Mr. Popular," She joked, letting her hands rest onto his waist before his eyes locked with hers, "I was wondering if you'd be here after I saw Rocky getting some drinks in the kitchen."

Ross found his hands traveling towards her face, cupping her cheeks to take a look at her, "I'm so glad you're here, angel."

An immediate blush formed onto her cheeks and she playfully rolled her eyes, the nickname still holding the same amount of power as it had been holding a year ago. "Are you ever gonna stop calling me that, Ross?"

He chuckled and shook his head quickly, turning her head to the side to plant a small kiss onto her heated cheek, "If you keep making me feel like I'm in heaven, I don't think I will."
