Christina's pov:
We have been on the road now for 6 hours. Since leaving the hospital I haven't really spoke to Kayden except for the occasional question about where we are or how far are we from his new place.
Kayden used to live near Blackpool which was half an hour from where me and my sister lived, after Jake's last visit to see me, Yelena and Annie, Kayden decided then would be a good time to move somewhere cheaper, somewhere he could live without having to deal with his mother's dramatics or his twins random drop ins.
He promised me that I could come live with him soon, once he was settled but I never thought I'd be going there under these circumstances and without my sister.
I can tell that we are almost there now as I can smell salt in the air and and I can hear seagulls over head, if I listen closely enough I can hear the ocean the waves crashing against the rocks. I can see why he wanted to move out towards the sea it refreshing, different, somehow I felt free a sense of relief like some hidden pressure had been lifted off my shoulders.
I turned to look at Kayd he looked like I did moments ago like a sense of relief had washed over him it's probably because he is home in familiar territory.
"Kayd, this place seems so relaxing. Is it always like this when you cross the border? Did you feel what I felt when we crossed over?", I smiled at myself hoping that we can finally have a conversation without me bursting out crying like the last time he tried talking to me.
Kayden turned his head towards me with a kind of frown but smile on his face, he reached over and turned the radio down, "Do you mean does it always feel like there is weight lifted from your shoulders? Well then your answer is yes, ever since I moved here it's felt like that, like all my troubles suddenly don't seem like a problem anymore I kind of like it if I'm honest."
I turn to look at him but his eyes are focused on the road ahead so I decide to carry on the conversation not wanting to let go of it. "Yeah I can see why you like it, so have you got any friends here yet? Do you have a job? Are the people nice here?"
Kayden's pov:
I am shocked, Christina is actually talking to me and she hasn't brought up any of what happened less than 3 months ago. I think she is trying to distract herself, I smile as I drive down the familiar roads of what I now call home,
"I have a couple of buddies here, I think you'll like them though I don't think you'll be too fond of Roxy, don't worry she doesn't really hang out with us anyway. I do have a job at the moment I'm in construction helping build some new homes for the people that got hit worst in the storm that happened not long ago. The people here are great they are really friendly and are good people. I can introduce you to some people if you want, oh and before I forget while you were sleeping Yelena called."
Her eyes bored into mine when I mentioned our best friends name she seemed worried and unsure. "Yelena called again?" she asked, her voice didn't sound right.
"Yeah she did, she said she was just checking in and that she won't be able to make it today, she got roped into some last minute job." I laughed at that, Yelena is always getting called into last minute jobs so we never really count on her coming when she said she would. Chrissy was laughing too."Of course she did, she always does that's nothing new. Have you heard from Jake?" she was looking away now. Chrissy and my brother have a bond not even I can work out, but I knew she would be wondering about my brother, honestly I was trying to avoid the whole subject when he found out what had happened to Chrissy and her family he went ballistic.
"Yeah I did, well kind of he was really up for making much conversation if I'm honest, he more wanted to shout at me then was going ballistic when I told him about little star and Elena. I told him you was in the hospital for the moment but you would end up at either mine or Rose's house once you were released. The kid is a mess Chris."
Christina had tears in her eyes again but she quickly blinked them away. "Can I call him once we are at yours? how long till we get there, a girls got needs you know" she laughed but it was a sad one her dark hair blowing around her face as we drive further into town.
"Of course you can, you don't need to ask me to do anything your not a prisoner here this is your home too. We will be home in just a minute can those girl needs of yours wait?", I said while laughing she just nodded then put her head on the window closing her eyes.
I keep thinking maybe if she was was going back to Yelena's she would probably feel better but then again she would be alone practically all day and would have a constant struggle to get up and down the stair.
At least with me she won't have to worry about any of that and I am off work for the next week and even when I go back to work I'm only working 5 hours a day 5 days a week. I turn the corner and pull into the drive way.
We are finally home, headlights shined right in my eyes, I squinted out the window trying to figure out what the fuck was going on and who the fuck was shining headlights in my windshield. Christina woke up by the bright light, she sat up straight her mouth open staring out of her window. She undid he seatbelt so fast and practically jumped out the car. What the actually fuck was going on?
