Their voices were coming from everywhere. It was a miracle he could hear anything over the ringing in his ears. The last time his heart was this agitated was when he saw her that first night… It felt like a lifetime ago. His legs moved automatically, knowing when to run and when to leap. The branches whipped his naked arms, protecting the fragile body he was carrying.
