Chapter 1: The prey that stayed

I desperately covered the wound on my left arm. It felt like I had my whole arm ripped off but it wasn't that bad. It was just a long cut from the shoulder almost all the way down to my wrist. 

Of course I wasn't experienced enough to ignore such a wound... So it was more than enough to stop me. 

???: "Oh my... To think that a random treat had blood this appetizing." A voice said with a chuckle from right behind me. 

And I knew the owner of the voice... The girl who had torn my sleeve and was now causing me to desperately bleed out. But still, there was only so much I could do with the ragged remains of that sleeve. 

Rize: "Well I am sorry for playing with you like this. If it wasn't for the fact that you discovered I was a ghoul... I might have kept you around. Your blood would be more than worth what it would take to keep you captured for a few months." 

Y/n: "Oh...? So you've been planning this for so long. I'm surprised. I feel dumb for not seeing that earlier." 

Rize: "Well I guess I should end you where you are. I don't want all of your blood to bleed out after all. Do you have any last words? I'd allow it since you haven't run." 

Y/n: "Why would I run? I... Just had bad luck." I said chuckling shaking my head. 

Of course, she seemed shocked. I could see that because her kakune that had been inching closer and closer towards me stopped. 

Rize: "Oh? Were you suicidal? I guess you can't always tell." She said with a shrug. 

Y/n: "Not exactly. I'm just... What's the word... A realist? I know my situation is bad. But there are three reasons I'm not running." I said as I felt my head suddenly become much lighter. 

I struggled to stand but just slowly went down my back laying against a wall. But I didn't let my eyes close once. Or I'd die. 

Rize: "And pray tell what are these reasons? I'm so interested since none of them has stayed still when they could run." 

Y/n: "First... The cut on my arm. If I bleed a ghoul could easily follow the trail. And getting my blood pumping would just make me die so much quicker. Second. You're a ghoul. You can easily run faster than me when I'm in the right state of mind." I said. 

But then I felt my head droop a bit. Damn-! It was getting harder and harder to stay awake. So hard that I bit my lip to feel the slight tinge to keep my eyes open. 

Rize: "Can you say the third reason? I don't like cliffhangers you know." She said as she crouched down in front of me and grabbed the back of my neck lifting it up to look at her face. 

Ah... I'd avoided doing that for now. Because it was reason number three... And I took a deep breath to speak as my heart began beating faster. 

Y/n: "I was a fool in love..." I said feeling my head droop again only staying up because of her hand. 

She looked at me humming for a moment before her tentacle reached out placing itself at my chin. Pressing close to my throat. 

Ah... Looks like she was at least going to kill me. If I had to choose to die to the person I love or bleeding out... I might just choose the prior option. 

But as the last thought slipped through my head I felt my vision darken. The last thing I felt was something softly pressing against my lips for a moment.

When I fell asleep I couldn't help but dream about the day prior to this. I was fresh out of high school. But I wanted to take a year to enjoy my life before going back to college.
