---A few moments later---
Quackity managed to get down from the roof of the prison with Sam's help. The gambler took a quick glance around before seeing his estranged blaze-borne husband. Fighting his mortal enemy. He gripped his sword tight and joined Sapnap.
He didn't realize who had begun swinging with him until he saw the two gold rings attached to a necklace glint in the sunlight. "Quackity...?" He was confused and excited at the same time, forgetting where he was for a second.
The gambler snarled, "Don't take your eyes off him and don't stop swinging." His axe collided with Technoblade's that was aimed for Sapnap. The blaze-borne immediately got back to fighting, side by side with his husband, despite the fact that they hadn't talked.
They had begun to overpower Technoblade, thinking they had the advantage. But Techno always had a trick up his sleeve. He was very good at slight of hand, actually. He got into it during his retirement and learned how to use it during close-quarters combat as well.
The piglin had a hidden dagger under his cloak, something he had grabbed from the enderchest before the fight started. All he had to do was not let them see it. He found the right opening after a few moments and performed his little trick, getting the dagger into the palm of his hand. He could tell in the blaze-borne's eyes that he had seen the dagger, but he couldn't do anything to stop it. The blade of the dagger ripped past Quackity's button down, driving into his heart.
Or well, his two hearts.
See, when Schlatt had been revived, he didn't have a pulse. Quackity, however, had twice as many heartbeats than a human should normally have. When Quackity ate his heart from the corpse, he affected the revival process, and had to live with two hearts crowding his chest. Whenever Schlatt would be in a stressful situation, it made his heart in Quackity's chest beat faster. He had to control his own heartbeat, plus the undead ram's. The gambler hadn't let it show outwardly, but that's not a very fun thing to have happen to your body.
So by a dagger going into his chest, Technoblade had taken out two birds with one stone.
Quackity stumbled back before falling back on the floor. It primarily hit the gambler's heart, but Schlatt would still be affected once he died. Sapnap was right by Quackity's side, cradling him into his arms in a panic.
The gambler took a long, hard glare at Technoblade before sputtering out, "It's always gonna be you that kills me, isn't it?" The piglin simply shrugged and walked away for some unknown reason.
Sapnap adjusted Quackity until his head was on his lap. The gambler rolled his eyes and glanced away with a scoff. "Why are you here?"
The blaze-borne bent down and touched their foreheads together. "Because I still love you."
It was getting harder to breathe for Quackity, and the lump in his throat certainly didn't help. "I thought you and Karl abandoned me."
Sapnap shook his head. "We would never do that. Karl said he asked you to join and you rejected. We thought you abandoned us."
"Karl never came to me. It was George who told me about Kinoko, and by then I had already started Las Nevadas." Quackity held his hand up shakily, running his hand back through the raven hair until his fingers hit two metal bands. "You never stopped thinking about me, did you?"
Sapnap shook his head, his free hand holding the rings that Quackity wore on a necklace. "I'm sorry I didn't come for you sooner. I'm sorry this is how it happens."
"You're beginning to sound like Karl." Quackity let out a small laugh, a bittersweet taste on his tongue. "Where...is Karl?"
Sapnap pulled his head back from Quackity. He could see the life draining from his eyes. "He disappeared about two weeks ago. Haven't seen hair nor tail of him."
"Oh..." Quackity stopped to stare at the sky as it set, oranges, purples, and blues all mixing together radiantly. "Make sure, when he comes back...you tell Karl I love him."
Sapnap nodded his head. "I will, I will. I promise."
Quackity's eyes focused on the fiery orange above him. "And I love you too, alright, Sapnap?"
"I love you too, so very much." The phrase poured out of the blaze-borne's mouth, but Quackity was already gone before he heard it, his eyes hazey and unfocused.
Sapnap closed his eyes for a few moments, mourning, before Dream's cackling snapped him back to reality.
