( THE OUTER BANKS ) were supposed to be Paradise on Earth and for some of the people living on the Island, that was an accurate term. But for others it was a damn struggle and not just for those living on the Cut; working minimum wage jobs and doing near constant labor. But also for the ones hiding their pain behind a mask of happiness and paradise.
( CAROLINE DAVENPORT ) was known as Kook royalty. Her parents were bigshot lawyers, always away on business trips, and leaving their teenage children swimming in money. But Caroline couldn't care less about money or fame and instead preferred to spend their time surfing with her friend Kiara, drinking on the beach, or learning obscure historical/natural facts.
( EVERY SUMMER ) since the beginning of high school had pretty much been the same. Getting dragged to Kook parties alongside her brother and either getting wasted or ending up trying to keep someone else from getting wasted.
( THEN CAME THE SUMMER ) when she developed feelings for one of her best-friends: Kook princess Sarah Cameron. Caroline told herself that nothing would come from it so she distracted herself with others, falling into the typical teenage partier lifestyle. But, Sarah reciprocated her feelings, or at least she claimed she did and the two engaged in a whirlwind romance, which ultimately ended when Sarah's brother caught them together and ended up exposing them. Sarah Cameron denied the relationship saying that it was an experiment and it ended their friendship.
( IN THE AFTERMATH ) Caroline 'meets' JJ Maybank at a party and they basically use each other in order to forget about their troubles for one night. They vow to never speak about it to anyone including between themselves, and the two part ways for what Caroline is sure is forever.
