Happy Tree Friends : A New Era

¤ CHAPTER THREE ¤

A red porcupine with dandruff on their quills woke up when a voice said, "We have reached your destination, welcome to Happy Tree Town everyone!" She yawned while stretching out her arms then rubbed their eye. She decided to move here when they found out about this town. When the airplane landed, everyone on board take their luggages out and walked out of it, the porcupine almost struggled to walk since the crowd is kinda big, and they don't like it since she has social anxiety, plus the space feels claustrophobic.

After getting on a taxi, she puts on their earphones and put on some swing music while looking out of the window. The scenery outside feels nostalgic to them, "Uhh miss, you okay?" She snapped out of thought to look at the driver, "Uh yeah, s-sorry.." The driver waved his paw, "No worries, just seeing you like that does remind me back to that green bear." They rose an eyebrow, "Green bear?" He nodded, "Oh yeah, a war veteran in Vietnamese military outfit, a beret and dog tags. Chill guy, I must say." Instead of saying something about this guy, they just nodded.

"I-I see."

Once they reached to her new home, a blue moose is there, taking out the rest of the porcupine's things out of the truck. "We're here, miss." She thanked the driver and walked out to talk to the moose. "Excuse me?" He looked at them and smiled, "Ah hello, you must be-" They held out her paw to shake hands with him, "Flaky, and you are?" He shook their hand, "Lumpy." Flaky nodded and asked if they can help as well, which he said yes.

After moving in Flaky's stuff, Lumpy said goodbye to them and she flopped on her couch. "New home." She swing their feet in wonder, "Should I visit the town?" They stayed like that for minutes until they stood up, "Yeah, I'm going to meet the residents." She took her keys to the house and walked out then locked the front door. The porcupine walked throughout the neighbourhood of Happy Tree Town and saw the library, she smiled as they ran towards it. She loves reading in their spare time, mostly about mythology. She opened the door then closed it back and admiring the scene before them, another nostalgic memory hit them and smiled as they explore more.

"Can I help you?"

They turned around to see a green bear, slightly shorter than her. He's wearing a cute sweater and camouflaged jeans and combat boots, he even has a scar across his cheek and his right ear is chipped off. She felt something off inside of her, like they remember this bear. "Uhh, do you have mythology books?" They asked him and he nodded, "Yeah, follow me!" She follows him to the mythology section, "Hey, that reminds me; my childhood friend also loved mythology stories too!" "They do?" He nodded, "Yep, said that it's interesting to learn about past stories of Roman and Greek Gods and Goddesses. Some people said that it's utter garbage but I think it's cool!!" She smiled and another memory hit them; she and their friend are at school, reading about Zeus, they would try to impersonate the scenes from the book and laughed together.

Someone shaked them and she snapped out of thought again, "Hey, you okay?" They waved their paw, "Yeah yeah, just lost-" The bear nodded and took out a book from the shelf, "You wanna read about Ares, the God of War or?-" He took another out, "The snake woman, Medusa?" They looked at the books then took the Medusa one, "This one!" He smiled then put back the Ares back in the shelf. "Well, I'm off then. Enjoy reading!" But before he can walk off, he felt a touch on the shoulder and turned around. "Hey, you free or something?" He got confused but answered, "Yeah?" Flaky smiled then sat on the floor and pat on the spot next to them, "Read with me." He shrugged then sat down and they opened the book.

'This feels familiar..' He thought as his eyes darted at the red porcupine, she looks like his childhood friend, very. 'Could it be...?' He shook them and they looked at him, they tilted their head. "Umm, do you have friends back then?" He asked her, "Well, I do have three and they're boys. But they're nice to me." He nodded, "Do any of the boys like reading with you?" She tugged their quill back in their ear, "Well, one. He's a bear, like you with the same colour." His eyes got a bit wide but asked them one more question, "What's his name?" The porcupine inhaled then spoke out, "Flippy. He joined the army with Mouse Ka-Boom and Sneaky and the only thing I want him to remember me by is this.." She took out a garnet gem necklace to show him, "He told me his favourite gem is peridot so I bought him that before he left.." They looked down, "Before I go to sleep, I always gripped on the necklace and sometimes cried in bed...Heh, I-I'm sorry, I sometimes vent this out whenever I think of him...How s-silly of me..." The bear didn't look away from the crying porcupine then hugged them and cried too, "F-flaky..?" She hugs back, cried even more. "It's you..! It's really you!" He put his finger on his lips and she blushed in embarrassment, "S-sorry, but you're here.." Flippy nodded then showed off his peridot gem to her, "We finally meet." They hugged again in embrace.

"Yeah, glad we did..old friend."

AU FACT ABOUT THESE TWO : Flaky didn't live in Happy Tree Town and died in the hands of Fliqpy like the others and doesn't know of his existence in their friend's body. They even wore gemstone necklaces as their remembrance of each other (Flippy gets the peridot & Flaky gets the garnet) and also, she doesn't know that Sneaky & Mouse Ka-Boom are dead. (as they are also childhood friends along with Flippy)
