"Holy shit, Kay! Could you please slow down?!" Emry yelled from behind me. I stopped and waited for him to catch up.

We had made it to the woods (not really woods, but it's a smaller town and it's what we got) I had parked the car, we had till 7pm -when Devon got off work- and it was noon now. Emry and I were walking down a small, faded trail that led to an old shed that no one really used.

"So what exactly is it we have to do?" Emry asked me nervously.

"Well we burn the sage, say something special, uhm we also have to.. uhm burn a few drops of our blood.." I explained this cautiously, since Emry hated the idea of blood. Such a hypocrite actually..

He glared at me, "And how exactly are we getting blood?"

By now we had reached the shed, "I guess you'll find out soon enough."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I had lit the sage and as I whispered a rhyme from my grandfather's journal, I slowly made a small cut on my upper left arm. I passed the blade on to Emry and dropped it into his hands before he could protest.
He winced as blood oozed from the newly formed scratch on his shoulder. I finished the rhyme as I wiped the blood from both of our wounds onto a piece of tissue paper.
I looked back up at Emry and he nodded, in unison we both spoke aloud saying, "I remain unclaimed." then I put my small fire out.
Just as I was starting to feel calm, I heard an earsplitting scream come from outside the shed. Emry and I both ran outside as fast as we could to see a small deer hanging by its neck from a nearby tree. Carved into the tree were the words "not that simple"
I looked back up at the animal, it's guts strewn out all over the ground near my feet.
I heard Emry let out a worried breath and I turned around to look back at him. His face mirrored my thoughts..
Fuck..
