You were staring profusely at your textbook and notes in front of you. It was hard to focus on what the professor was rambling on and on about. It was the last period of today's classes and you wanted nothing more than to go home and sleep off your creeping headache. Lucky for you, you had just become a sophomore at your local college, meaning you didn't have to stay on campus. First years were always required to do so, and it had been hell for you.
Your freshman roommate had been nothing short of a slob. She only showered two times a week, maybe three if you were lucky. Now this wouldn't have been too much of an issue if it weren't for the fact that she was rather active. She played volleyball, soccer, basketball or any other sport she could manage to get a spot on. She wasn't the best at picking up after herself either, and you often found her used pads just lying out by the sink. Despite this she was an incredibly nice girl, but you took the first opportunity you could in renting a small apartment by yourself.
The teacher's growing excitement about whatever the hell he was saying managed to slightly return your focus to him. Looking around the room you noticed that most everyone else was zoning out. Abby, your past roommate, sat two rows in front of you; she was already dressed and ready to go to soccer. You noticed a few of the top students actually paying attention, but of course their front row seats made it easier. You swiveled your head behind you to your right, most of these kids had their heads down and were asleep. You looked to your left and for the most part it was the same. A select few were focused, for the most part just Matt and Bryan.
You jumped when the bell rang and a few glances were cast your way. Swiftly you began packing your things. Students ran past you and out the front door. As always you waited until the back rows had filed through before you left. You weren't fond of the idea of getting crushed or forced into a group on the way out. Once they were gone you made your own way down the lecture hall stairs. You kept your eyes down as you walked; your only focus right now was to get home.
The hallways were loud and bustling. People tended to gather here after classes and socialize instead of going straight home. It annoyed the hell out of you because your social battery was always out by the end of the day, making the constant 'excuse me's all that more annoying to say. You saw Bryan cast a glance your way as you squished yourself through the crowd. Pretending not to see him you hurried as fast as you could to reach the main doors, but he didn't seem to have nearly as much trouble as you and was already next to you when you pushed your way through the doors.
Bryan was once of the nicest and most popular students on campus. He wasn't only a senior but he was "the senior". The person everyone knew even if you never met him, and the guy everyone wanted to get with: including the freshman whores. He was incredibly tall, at least 6'3, muscular but not overly so, nice fluffy dark brown hair, soft pink lips, and a beautiful straight smile. He wore dark clothing and wrist bracelets as if trying to be edgy, but it didn't quite match with his nice persona.
"Hey Y/N!" Bryan beamed at you. You weren't really in the mood for him right now. "I saw you were zoning out in class, and I wasn't sure if you heard, but we have a test this Friday. I took notes so maybe tomorrow after school we can meet up and you can copy them down?"
"I appreciate it," you started slightly annoyed that he never got the hint from you, "But I really wouldn't mind if you just sent them to me over text." You put on your best fake smile. It wasn't Bryan's fault for being overly kind to you and you definitely appreciated all his effort, but you were desperately needing some down time to yourself. Especially with your recent lack of sleep.
He brushed off your denial and began with another excuse. "Well I don't really think that just copying it down will teach you much. It's much easier to understand if everything is explained to you. And besides you promised me the first day of class that you'd find time for us to study together. I'll have some food picked up and delivered here on me. Anything you want." He smiled at you brightly.
Sighing internally you agreed, "Fine tomorrow sounds good. I guess I did promise that. And something simple like pizza is fine, I don't want you spending too much money on me"
"Great! And don't worry about it, I always like to treat my friends."
Feeling this was an okay time to exit the conversation you said your goodbye and sent him a small wave as you walked away. You worked your way to the bus stop that was right on the edge of campus. You had your own car, but students got the bus for free if they had their student pass with them. It was much cheaper to only use your car when necessary and to save gas this way. You were already stressed enough trying to pay off your student loan.
You must have missed the first bus because by the time you got to the bench there was only one person left there. Usually there were enough people to fill up at least half the bus. You sat down on opposite ends of the person. They appeared to be male from their body size. They had a black hoodie on and some jeans and what looked like off-brand converse shoes. Their face was hard to make out from under the hood. You kept your head down and stared intently at your feet. You really weren't in the mood for making new friends.
They didn't seem to be quite interested in you either. You cast an occasional glance at them to see if you could recognize who it was so you maybe wouldn't have to feel as awkward.
"Staring is rude." They said still not having turned to look at you. You knew now that they had to be male. He had a semi-deep soothing voice, it didn't convey any emotions on how he felt about your staring which left you feeling sweaty and nervous. You just had to guess by his words that he must have been annoyed or offended.
"S-sorry." You stuttered out sounding like a frightened mouse. He chuckled slightly at your words. His focus still ahead of him. "Do you go there?" He spoke up again. He made no gesture to anything so you could only assume he meant the college. You contemplated on telling him or not. You didn't know this person.
"Yes." You finally said in a quiet voice.
"Good. You would have been a liar if you said differently."
You tilted your head and felt even more uncomfortable now. How would he know for sure you went to that college? You gripped your book bag strap and were about to question him before you realized your stupidity. It was obvious you went to that school. You had a book bag on you and you came from behind him. You would have come from the city if you had come from any other direction. On top of that no other students used this bus stop. He was probably just trying to start a conversation and break the awkward silence. Not almost give you a panic attack.
The bus could finally be seen making it's way down the road and you couldn't be more grateful that the moment was over. It came to a stop and you sprung up and through the open doors, quickly showing your student pass. You took a spot in the very back, hoping the man would choose to sit upfront. The bus waited about thirty more seconds before the doors finally closed. he never got on. You stared back through the window even more uneasy now that he hadn't gotten on. You kept watching him until he was almost out of sight, and you finally saw him look up. Despite not being able to make out any features of his face, you knew he was looking right at you. You turned your head forward and tried to focus on something else the rest of the way home.
