Alice was only 4 years old when she went on a motorcycle ride with her grandfather. She enjoyed every minute of it. Riding. Feeling the wind hit freedom on her face. Little did she know... it would be her last day of freedom.
By accident, Alice fell off of her grandpa's motorcycle. She may seem fine. A few scrapes on her knees. She knows she can get back up and continue her day... but Maggie saw something else.
"ALICE!" Maggie yelled, worrying about her four-year-old. She knows how dangerous motorcycles can be. Causing Whiplash, broken ribs, internal bleeding, and Traumatic Brain Injury. Maggie took her daughter to the hospital. Worried.
That day in the hospital would change little Alice's life forever.
Her mother gifted her a wheelchair. Margaret said to the curious child that the doctor gifted her a wheelchair and that's where she had to be.
That moment on, Maggie sees Alice as... Fragile.
Very Fragile.
Alice seemed less Fragile before, but now... She's just the word itself.
Maggie told Spencer and everyone she knows that Alice has Muscular Dystrophy. Sometimes there are days that Alice feels like she could get better, but every day she can continue getting worse.
Most of the time, when people ask Maggie why her daughter is in the wheelchair, she always said, "Alice is a very fragile girl."
Fragile.
Alice hates that word.
She felt like she is anything but fragile. She is energetic, joyful, beautiful, outgoing, and strong.
She proved herself as anything but fragile.
On a family barbecue, when Alice saw a couple of children playing hide n seek... Alice began to stand up.
She began to walk slowly towards the little ones, being part of a sense of normalcy in her life... her mother saw her, walking.
Normally, when a child is healed from a serious illness, the parents would be happy and let their child live a happy life... but that's not who Maggie is.
"Alice," Maggie said with a hint of a hiss in her voice, "Get back in the wheelchair."
"But mama," Alice says, "I can walk. I don't need the wheelchair."
"Alice, get back in the chair. Your body may seem fine now, but sooner or later, it'll get weaker. It's for your own sake."
Alice lays on the ground and crawled towards the chair, pretending to be the word she truly despised... Fragile.
She went back to the chair and rolled towards the children. Still playing with them but in a wheelchair.
The family asked Margaret why she must be in the wheelchair, but Maggie continued with her "disabled" and "sick" daughter sympathy talk. Maggie's family knows it's not true.
They know that Alice is perfectly healthy. They know that she can walk. They know that Maggie is lying to get the attention she has craved. They can see the truth behind the lies.
Everyone believed the lies. Even Spencer believed that his daughter is disabled. He hardly sees Alice anymore. He went from seeing her happy and running towards her dad in joy to seeing her in a wheelchair. It breaks his heart just seeing his daughter like this. He wishes he could see her every day, let her spend time with his new wife, Kimberly, be part of his life more... he knew Maggie is never gonna let that happen. Every time, Maggie made Alice visit her dad less and less... making things worse for her daughter.
Being in a wheelchair isn't the only thing for Alice. For her, it gets even worse
