Authors note:

I am so, so sorry for the late update. I just did my exams and I have two assignments due in a two days, so I am royally fucked lmao. But bare with me and eat this up while I go do my shit, love you guys, thank you for 22k! I appreciate you awesome people! ENJOY 1000 WORDS.

Deena stared at me, in disbelief. I couldn't do or say anything. Did she just say she wants me? Like, wants to be with me? It didn't even register in my mind. Was it in the heat of the moment? Was she just saying it to get a grip of me? It didn't matter anyway. This was the last time she was going to speak to me ever again. I pushed her away and pulled my legs to my chest. Deena lifted herself from the floor and laid on her bed, idly. If I could take back everything I've said to her since the day I met her, I would.

"I invited Emily to the next pep rally." Deena admitted after a while of silence.

"Oh, really?" I stifled. A part of me died. I can't believe that bitch won.

"Goodnight, Y/N."

A part of me didn't want to say goodnight, I wanted to get up and fight and tell her everything, but I had to let her go. I can't afford my social life, my college life, my work life– my whole life. I'm not okay with walking around being known as the lesbian chick, its 1994, no one is going to be having that. "Night, Deena." I said as I too rose from the ground just to lightly plop down on my bed. A lot happened today. I'm tired. I just want to sleep, and so I did.

I fell fast asleep right after, I dreamt of Deena and I. We were in a new world where we weren't judged, in a world where I could freely be myself without an ounce of doubt or shame. I wanted that to be real life, but it wasn't realistic. It's bittersweet, but its the way things are these days. I was abruptly awoken by the sound of screaming and cries from outside our cabin, I shot up still in a haze, I shot my head to where I last saw Deena. She wasn't there. The front door of the cabin busted open to reveal one of the kids from my biology classed in a distressed state, struggling to catch his words and breath.

"Who the fuck are you? What the hell is going on? Why's everyone screaming?"

"Something real bad happened last night. People are saying there might be a killer on the campus!" He yelled, he running away shortly after. It took a while to register and then it hit me, there's a fucking murderer out there on the campus. And I'm the most hated here? I'm for sure next, I'd be so offended if I wasn't, like? Did I not wreak enough havoc? Was I lacking? That would be really embarrassing on my behalf. But then a worse realisation hit me, where the fuck is Deena? I shot up, regardless of the fact that where was probably dried mascara all over my face, without a care in the world I jogged out the door. I sprinted out into the open grass and around me was chaos, there was an ambulance and police cars scattered across the camp, students in a frenzy. I saw some crying, some yelling, I looked over to the one phone booth in this camp and I saw multiple kids fighting and brawling to call their loved ones. I spotted Deena talking to a police man and I instantly jogged over.

"Sir? I was asleep all of last night, I just found out about this the same time you did? Why are you taking me to the station? Why me?" Deena reasoned, clearly annoyed, the police man groaned and massaged the sides of his head.

"I still don't trust it, you need to be questioned. I don't believe people like you, you have a taste for trouble." He says as he prepares his hand cuffs, I wasn't gonna let this slide.

"Excuse me? Hello?" I bellowed completely annoyed, he turned to face me and scoffed. "I find it hilarious you're reasoning behind taking her in for questioning is because you don't trust it, I don't know if you missed this at whatever bullshit academy you went to, but your personal feelings don't matter when it comes to the law, ok?" I snapped only to earn a low laugh from the pasty officer.

"Why don't you go run off and do something good for yourself, you think you can my job better than me? You think you can solve this?" He laughed.

"Actually, yes I can, but that's a different story. When you said people like you are you referring to Black people?" I asked in a condescending tone, trying to ooze the suppressed racism out of him.

"What? No!"

"Then what the fuck did you mean?" I asked, he became choked up and visibly red, having been called out on his clear racism. I glanced at Deena, she looked at me, her mouth gaping open. God, I love that mouth. "Funny how you're choosing her out of everyone huh?"

"Don't you dare accuse me, a police officer, of such things. After all you're a little high school girl, all your good for is a little fun." He said taking a step towards me as he peered down at my shorts, Deena step in front of me, shielding me from the creepy officer. He another step but Deena didn't budge, her hand snaked around mine from behind her. I looked at his badge and my face lit up.

"Sunnyvale police?" I breathed.

"Yes, why?"

"My dad owns that police department and the hospital, you won't have a job by tonight."

"Ha! Funny joke! Who are you?" He laughed loudly, what a fucking idiot.

"Y/N, Y/F/N."

His laugh was quickly silenced and he coughed, he took a few steps back and cleared his throat.
