Murphy had been hated by almost everyone ever since you had first landed on the ground. You understood why at first, but hearing about his childhood, seeing him cry - you had sympathy for him, even when you didn't say it. But when you saw him sitting all alone at the diner, you sat across from him, your food tray thumping down. He glanced at you briefly.

"What do you want, L/N?" he asked and you shrugged.

"I've been gathering my courage to talk to you for so long and now... I did it." you flashed him a tight-lipped smile. "What's up, Murphy?"

"Get to the point already. Oh yeah, you're going to say the same things as the rest of them, I get it, I'm a monster." he sighed.

You stared at him for a moment with furrowed brows and then slowly shook your head. "I... wasn't going to say that."

"Then why are you sitting there?" he asked and poked his food with his fork. "You can't be there for no reason?"

"Why not?"

He scoffed. "Because nobody talks to me without a reason."

You pursed your lips. "What if I wanted to be friends?"

His brows furrowed as he looked up to you. "You? Want to be friends? With me?"

You shrugged. "I mean... why not? You seem cool."

He scoffed again, but this time a smile was on his lips. "Alright L/N... I haven't made friends this way since daycare but I like your style."

And so you two began talking about yourselves, talking about your lives, interests and values - and you noticed that you weren't that different at all. You were quickly becoming close, almost opening up to each other after just a few hours, and that was what you wanted. You wanted Murphy to have a friend, to feel like there's at least one person on the Ground who cares about him.

And you did. You genuinely did.
