"Why the hell is he stopping here?" Edward said, glancing at the grassy hillside where Carlisle had just parked his car.
"He's in the right place." Alice piped up from the back seat.
"You sure?" Jasper asked from his place next to Alice.
"Yep." She chirped, already opening the door, "Come on, let's go."
With a sigh, I climbed out of Edward Volvo and into the cool New York air. The place where we had parked was nothing special. Just a overgrown field that sloped up a steep hill upon which grew a young pine tree. As I looked closer, I saw that there were signs of a recent battle. The grass was pulled up and a faint smell of blood lingered in the air. Something about this place was making me feel uncomfortable.
This time Rosalie asked, "Is this the right place?"
Carlisle nodded, "Yes, it is."
"I don't like this" Jasper said, warily glancing at the hill, "It has a weird vibe."
"Vibe?" I asked teasingly. That was a very un-Jasper thing to say. He just rolled his eyes at me.
"Come on," Carlisle said and started up the hill.
I followed my siblings as they made their way up the hill, trailing behind a bit. I got what Jasper meant, although I wasn't sure that vibe was the right word. A shiver ran down my spine and the wind shifted. The smell of old blood made its way into my lungs again, my throat erupting into flames again. I ignored the pain, we had already reached the top of the hill anyway. What I saw on the other side was possibly the strangest summer camp that I have ever seen. The cabins were terribly mismatched, and not in the good way. Not only that, but there was a real Greek amphitheater nestled between some small hills.
"Wow." I breathed.
"Come on, we must get to Chiron before its too late" Esme said, ushering us dow the hill.
As we reached the bottom, a small crowd had formed. Most of the campers were children, some as young as 7, but none older than 18. In their midst stood a creature that I had never seen before. It was a man from the head to the waist, but below that, it had the body of a horse. A centaur.
No. Way.
Carlisle could not have meant that Chiron. No, he had. This was the Chiron from all the myths and legends of the Greeks. This was just getting stranger by the minute.
"Carlisle, good to see you again, old friend." The centaur said as we stopped before the group.
"Likewise, although I'm not pleased about the circumstances." My father replied.
Chiron nodded gravely, "I understand. Let's take a walk. Campers, please return to your scheduled activities."
We began to follow the centaur, when one of the older campers caused an uproar that not even Alice could have foreseen.
"They must be the vampires from the prophecy!"
Prophecy? What prophecy? Was it the same one that Alice had gotten?
Before I could even complete the thought, a bunch of mean looking kids rushed at Alice, who was standing a bit farther away. Naturally they would go for the weakest member of the group. Instantly my protective instincts kicked in and I rushed to Alice's side, my siblings mirroring my actions. I glared at the girl closest to us, a growl building in my throat. A pale boy, with dyed blue hair moved forward to shield her from harm. His turquoise eyes sparkled angrily as he glared at me.
"Get the fuck away from her" he snarled.
"Make me" I spat back, another growl escaping my lips.
"Alright" he said, accepting the challenge.
The the boy raised his left hand and the ground behind him split open. Five skeletons dressed in Ancient Greek battle armor crawled out of the hole. I stepped back, surprised, but quickly caught myself. If he wanted to bring magic into play, then he could be my guest. I was already pulling an image of a dragon into my mind, as the man that Carlisle had addressed called for order.
"ENOUGH" he yelled.
The blue haired boy sent another glare my way, before pulling the girl over to his side. There was a type of energy between them that I couldn't explain. Maybe they were together. Maybe not. Jasper was better at reading this kind of situation, but my theory would explain his extreme protectiveness over her.
"Carlisle, I think we should take this inside." Chiron spoke up, tearing me away from my thoughts.
"I agree" my father replied and together the two made their way towards the baby blue mansion.
My siblings started to follow but I turned back to the campers one last time. The blue haired boy was still glaring at me. When he caught my eye, he raised his hand and flipped me off. I glared back at him and spat a pool of venom onto the floor before following my family. I had to remember to leave a scorpion in his bed before we left.
