I stare at the dark brown glossy casket that is being lowered in to the sand.
The priest and people started walking away, as the prayer service had come to an end. Leaving me and Jacob along with nana who is now resting in the ground alone in the eerie cemetery and under the gloomy weather.
Jacob had been sobbing continuously on my chest while my arm is securely wrapped arround his shoulders. I let out a deep breath.
Nana left me and Jacob all alone in this world. A silent tear trembled down my cheek as the flashbacks came from the time she took us in and tickled us to sleep to the moment she beat the crap out of us for eating her favorite donut to the last message she sent me.
"I love you both so much, maybe hurry up a little bit".
It was her who accepted us for who we are and taught us to love even if we didn't receive it on the other end.
She taught us to be brave and courageous to stand up for who we are.
She taught us everything, except...
Except...how to live on the days without her.
I take Jacob with me and get in the car, driving us to nana's house to stay in for while until we get things sorted out as the fire destroyed our apartment. Destroying all our things with it.
Jacob sits on the couch with his head plopped down, and his elbows resting on his knees.
I let out a sigh and take a seat infront of him, the silence, killing both of us as realization kicks in by every passing second.
"Jacob?",
"Hmm?", he hums
"What happend at la roca?", I try to break the uncomfortable silence.
"Does it matter?.... Nana is gone",
I stay silently just staring into space.
"He dumped me, he said I'm- I'm such a pussy for not being able to keep up with him in the bedroom", he says silently.
Anger boling in me.
"He said that he found another guy, and he's happy", he finishes.
I sat near him trying not to show the evident anger in me.
"Hey, I dont know the details, but fuck him, he is such a limp dick", I encourage.
"Yeah", he sniffles wiping away his tears.
"I shouldn't have gone to la roca, we should have gone home straightly to nana, we could have saved her", he says.
I let out a deep sigh, "we can't control things that our out of a reach Jacob", I reply looking down.
I glance at him, "But what we can do is, find that motherfucker who set our apartment on fire", anger boiling inside of me.
So many innocent familes were killed, so many children died, so many lives were destroyed.
"What? I thought it was an accidental fire", Jacob looks at me shocked.
"No, it wasn't. While you were preparing for nanas funeral, I called some people to investigate prior to the fire, and there were malicious people who had unauthorized access to the building", I say.
"Did they get a lead?", he asks.
"No, they did their task as much as their investigation allows it, it is our job to find that piece of shit",
Just then my phone vibrates in my pocket, I reach it and check the caller ID.
Mr. Daunté is calling.
