The important thing was to love rather than to be loved.
W. Somerset Maugham
I stood staring at them, completely fazed. Kylie dipped her head and watched me as if I were a confusing art piece. I had no plan and was completely unsure of what to do. What if I let them in and mommy grew angry again? But if I didn't I knew Kylie would become suspicious. Daddy was behind me in seconds and letting them in. I was unsure of what to do, so I just stood. Daddy said his hellos and mommy began cleaning up the uneaten food.
Mandy ran up to daddy and he swung her around like he did yesterday. I smiled as Mandy laughed. Then when daddy sat her down she ran to the living room and began watching Cinderella. I went to my room as all the adults shuffled into the kitchen to discuss Grandma.
Melody sat on my bed. A smile was on her face as she waited for me. I don't think I have ever seen her smile but then again I hadn't ever known her for very long. Her smile grew bigger as I approached her and sat on my bed in front of her. She laughed as I tried to get comfortable. Then we talked about nothing really. I did manage to ask her if she saved Madison and she said she did. That Madison was okay and she was okay before Melody intervened but Melody just made sure she didn't need help. I smiled, knowing she was okay.
I heard crying and snuck out of my room, while McKayla held my hand. She always walked with me when Melody didn't want to. Which happened to be always. We sneaked down to the kitchen and daddy was holding mommy while she cried. Kylie stood, uncomfortable in a corner, watching the scene. Mandy was asleep on the floor as Cinderella ran down the steps losing her glass slipper.
I ran to mommy and launched myself at her, I hugged her and told her it would be alright. She hugged me and held me and wouldn't let go. Daddy sent me and mommy to their room, saying that he and Kylie would cook supper. He said that mommy and I needed to rest. I laughed for some unknown reason and hung onto mommy's neck as we walked down the hallway. When we entered the room mommy cradled me. We laid down in the bed and snuggled under the covers.
I fell asleep and dreamed of unicorns dancing. I loved unicorns!
