"Claire, I don't think Ophelia is going to criticise the colour of the walls for being too light." Lando sighed setting down the paint bucket.
Deciding to take full responsibility of getting Ophelia's nursery ready was more difficult than he had expected to. Claire knew exactly what she wanted to do with the room but couldn't explain it that well to him, he was trying his best, making what he could of her instructions.
Her friends came over once in a while to help him out, Sonya took to the role of supervisor and literally made them slave away. Right now, Claire was upset the beige they chose for the walls was lighter than what she had envisioned, but Lando and Nicole were tired of painting the walls and thought it looked just fine.
"I'm with them on this one, the walls look just fine! We still have to install the cradle, assemble the crib, changing table-"
"Clothes! I need to go buy clothes for her, let me add that to my list."
"Claire. You've bought enough clothes. You need to stop!" Alia held her, "this is coming from me, a shopaholic."
Claire sighed, she really felt like she was going insane. She looked at the clock, she had a call with her mentor in five minutes. She apologised to the girls and Lando for being so nit-picky about things.
"Thank you for not running away, and calling me insane. I have to get ready for the call now, bye bye!" She waved at them.
Claire left the room and Sonya let out a sigh, she loved her friend a lot. Why else would she fly down for her? But she needed to calm down, all of this stress wasn't good for any of them.
The girls headed back to their place, they wanted to freshen up and go see the garden of Wisley. Claire was busy on a work call and Lando, for the first time had nothing to do. Jon had let him take one day off from training and so had the factory, they didn't need him around today.
He headed to his gaming room and spent a while playing with his friends, it was a lot of chaos but he enjoyed it, hearing them all laugh and relaxed after months of doing their high pressure jobs every weekend.
He looked at his watch, two hours had elapsed. Claire might be hungry now, he thought. He opened the pantry, hoping to find something he could serve her immediately.
He headed to the garden, where she was sitting with a platter of crackers, fruits, a dip that would hopefully not make her throw up and a lot of water. She looked at him and smiled.
"I figured you must be hungry." He explained setting the plates down.
"I love you, very much." She grinned before turning all her attention back to her laptop.
He didn't say anything, he marched back to the house and started gaming again. His friends were still online, playing a round of iRacing.
You: mind if I join? As soon as you guys are done?
Asian Tom cruise: didn't you leave to go cook her a meal?
LeChair: yes Lando go fulfil your boyfriend duties!
Jack Russell: yeah what's the matter?
You: she said that she loves me
LeChair: and that's bad because?
Asian Tom Cruise: you can have a baby with someone without telling them you love them? I thought that was step one!
"What's wrong?" He heard Claire's voice after a knock on the door.
He opened the door and looked at her, with a pouty face. The look on his face wiped the smile right off her face and replaced it with a worried frown.
"What's wrong Lando?" She asked him again.
"Nothing." He sighed sitting back in his chair, putting his headphones back on.
"I'm so sorry, I didn't realise how upsetting my behaviour this morning was." She croaked.
"No! That's not what I meant silly!" He laughed. He got up to give her hug, she softened at his touch. She looked into his eyes and asked him why he was so upset.
"I'm not upset! I was confused! I do all these things for you hoping you'll say that you love me when all I had to do was bring you a platter of food." He chuckled.
"I said that?" She looked at him, visibly blushing.
"Yeah, you did and um I love you too." He scratched the back of his neck.
Claire could see how nervous he looked right now, she decided to mess with him. "I wasn't using my inside voice, I take back what I said."
"What!? No! You can't take it back!"
"Backsies!"
"No! There's no backsies for when you say you love someone!"
"I'm kidding!" She kissed him, "I love you, very much." She ruffled his hair.
"Good." He looked all smug. "Now that you've said that you love me, will you do something with me?"
"What?" She asked taking a seat on one of the chairs beside him.
"Play a video game with me! That's if you're done with everything you have to do."
"For today, yeah I'm done!"
"Good! Now we can ignore all our responsibilities and play." He beamed.
His phone rang, it was his friends. "Hop on! We're done. Time to play another round!" George announced.
"No thanks, I'm going to play Minecraft with Claire."
"Oh, I see, have fun!" One could hear the smugness in George's voice, which of course made Lando roll his eyes.
"Okay Claire, we're going to play Minecraft."
"I don't really care about the game, I just want to spend time with you." She admitted.
"What did I do to deserve you?" He placed a kiss on her cheek, man I really did win. He thought to himself.
They spent hours building Claire a cottage and designing the interiors. Responsibilities, the rest of the world, it all seemed much less significant when their eyes met each other's.
