"She will see you now ladies." Curious, confused, but most of all excited. Those are the words out of all 12 lauguages that I know that can describe how I felt right at that moment. Why did I feel that way you ask? Well, let me start from the beginning...

"Stop it Lance, just stop it!" It didn't used to be like that. Once upon a time we were a happy family living I'm Sacramento, California; there wasn't any yelling or fighting way into the night. It had been like that for about three months.

"You shouldn't have something like this from me, Danielle! We're suppoused to be a family!" A family. How I wished it would go back to that.

I never really paid attention to what my parents fought about. I was too busy covering my ears hoping to mute the yelling and my own sobs underneath my covers. But what ever it was it must have been serious, because my mother left a week after my seventh birthday.

During four years after that dad began to change. He started drinking heavily and staying out really late. One night he had gotten so bad I cried myself to sleep. I woke up that night knowing that going back to sleep would be impossible, I knew that this nightmare had to end. There was only one answer to this problem.... mom. When I left my house ( which wasn't hard dad was out drinking) to start my search the first thing I knew I would need was a place to stay, a place where a computer and tons of reference materials would be available. I walked a bit pondering these thoughts. Then it hit me. I looked up at a building and the bold letters on the sign read "PUBLIC LIBRARY".

"Perfect", I said through my grin.
