"Sorry, Dad. I gotta take this..."

She put the phone to her ear. Melanie?"

"Hello."

"How did you get my number?"

"Zach had it hung up on his bulletin board on his wall. He forgot to take it down after he put it in his phone I guess..."

"Oh."

"How did you know it was me?"

"I've had your number for a couple months now. Zachary gave it to me in case I needed someone to talk to."

"Oh."

"..."

"..."

"Why are you calling me exactly?"

"I wanted to know how serious you two got... when me and him were dating."

"We crushed on each other, and the kiss was about as far as we got. Then you broke up with him and-"

"PLEASE DON'T REMIND ME!!!"

'Why shouldn't I? He told me how great and how amazing you were and that is what he got in return? Who the hell did you think you were?"

"A jealous and stupid girl! Okay?"

"..."

"..."

"Well... you didn't need to take it that far."

"I know..."

"..."

"..."

"We need a sleepover."

"Why a sleepover?"

"I'd feel more comfortable talking to you as a friend than exes-of-the-same-guy. And a sleepover is the best place to do that."

"Okay. Lets have it at my place. My parents will be home so they can make us popcorn."

"Okay. Any siblings?"

"I'm an only child."

"Oh. Okay."

"Zach's never told you that?"

"Well... let's save it for the sleepover, kay?"

"Okay."

"Just me and you?"

"And my parents."

"Okay."

"Tonight?"

"Sure. I'll be there in a couple hours... or when I can I guess."

"Okay. Bye."

"Bye."

Brooke walked over to her father and brother.

"I'm gonna go to my friend Melanie's tonight for a sleepover. She lives a little ways away so if I'm gonna get there in a couple hours then I'm gonna have to leave now."

"With us of course," her brother said.

"Yes."

"Well... I suppose it's alright her parents are supervising," her dad said slowly.

"Her parents will be there and it's just me, her, and her parents according to her."

"Okay then," her father said. "Let's get in the car then."

Brooke grabbed her cotton candy and finished eating it. She tossed the garbage, gave her bench one last pat, and walked to the car.

When she got home she packed a backpack and kissed her brother and father goodbye, and hopped in her car.

She hoped to God this sleepover would go well.
