Seoul Music Awards
Seoul Music Awards.
Who would've thought Jungkook's biggest breakthrough studying film would lead me to this?
Surrounded by countless of idols, celebrities, and media. Cameras flashing in fast pace, people wearing shiny, sparkling outfits, and the sound of champagne being popped across the room.
First off, let's take a quick recap from this.
Jungkook wasn't aware he'd be helping this event.
It was a very simple story at first. Jungkook found ARIA Stunning Visions, his part time just of last year where he was told I'd be working as a visual photographer for aspiring, young models. Instead, he would find himself working as a cameraman for the k-idol industry.
A complete turn from Jungkook's vision board.
You see, ARIA was a sister company for famous K-Idol Performance Shows. They higher cameramen to get the right angles of their celebrities at any occurrence. Whether that's performing on stage, or reacting to a performance in the audience. In a way, they are the safety paparazzi. Hired for good reactions and respect of privacy by various idol shows such as MNET countdown, Inkigayo, and Music Bank.
Now, how does this all relate to Jungkook? Oh right, he used to be in an Arts college before the hiring. He studied for Design and Cinematography, but he decided to take a turn from education as it didn't personally suit him. He was only 21 at the time— freshly dropped from college, and living off of janky part-time jobs and sold wardrobe.
So yeah, you could say he wasn't in the best living condition.
This promotion, however, really changed his life.
He was hired to work as a videographer for several different TV shows. Although videography wasn't his strongest suit, he managed to capture the same effect he had from photo to filming.
He also got to meet with new people. One of his favorites has got to be Min Yoongi, a quiet, daring cameraman that seemed to be shy and introverted on the outside, but in reality is really calm and kind-hearted.
They met on his first day working there. Yoongi saw him on his first lunch break and told him he looked like a loner. Although he was quite offended by it, Jungkook took that chance to get to know Mr. Min as acquaintance and soon became close friends.
His boss, on the other hand, was a wild card. She was tall, cunning, and vibrant. She instructs Jungkook on where and when to film. Her name was Jessica Ho, but everyone just called her Jessi for short. She was never really the rude kind, but her personality was so bold and straightforward that left many in shock. Jessi was their boss, although she works for an entirely different boss. This is why she always instructs the two and everyone of her workers that their mistake is their demotion. She says this with a big smile, of course. But with Jessi, it's always hard to tell whether it's really a joke or not.
This brings us back to the grand reveal.
This trip, included (surprisingly) Jungkook. Jungkook, who has never worked an award show before in his life. Although he's still not used to this new life of idolatry and hectic fan culture, he wasn't so sure he'd be able to get use to the cultural shock of the extravagant event known as the Seoul Music Awards.
They arrived in a jet black Jeep. There were a lot of crazy paparazzi aiming the view of the red carpet. Since this was his first special mission in the agency, he had Yoongi, Hwasa and a girl named Solar on his side to consult him.
There were separate vehicles for all ARIA workers. This night alone would require about 20 of them which was just enough to fit 5 cars.
They've all had experience in this setting- the big lights, red carpet, loud fanchants.
Jessi was also in the car. She always award shows to make sure her business went solid, and connect with more idols to hire them for business shoots.
They all fit together in this big but small Jeep. Min Yoongi was staring at his cellphone, scrolling through Instagram probably checking at the outfits for tonight's event.
Jungkook was fascinated by all of this.
"Yoongi and Hwasa, I'm assigning the both of you to the center wing. This is an important task since you guys will be covering when idols walk to the stage to accept their awards. This will also be near many seniors, so don't make a bad impression on me."
The both of them nod nonchalantly, it seemed like they've done this business before.
"Solar, you will be taking the right wing section where most of the girlgroups lie. Be prepared to see many famous acts like Blackpink, EXID, Red Velvet, Twice and-"
"Twice?" Jungkook's eyes sparked in interest. He's been a fan since 2017, and although his work revolves around entertainment and photography, he's never gotten to actually see his idols in person before. "They're attending?"
"Of course they're attending you dimwad, this is an all-idol event."
Jungkook furrowed his eyebrows at the mint-haired man who was now reinserting earbuds on.
Hwasa laughed, "This must be your first time! It's normal to get anxious over these things, just don't fuck up the camerawork."
"That's pretty much all you have to worry about in these events anyways. Even if you see your favorite artists, just be professional or at least pretend to and the night will go by extremely fast!"
"Alright Jungkook, your station will be on the left wing from the stage," Jessi announced. "That would be in the pit of some of the popular idols- MonstaX, Seventeen, Momoland, BTOB, Bolbbalgan4..."
Jungkook widened his eyes, so many famous names. He never thought he'd survive with just that thought, but then Jessi continued.
"And finally- BTS."
"Whoa," Yoongi chuckled evilly.
"No way, you got BTS on your first night," Solar gasped.
Jungkook wasn't the biggest BTS fan, but he knew how good they were. I mean for God's sake, they are the biggest boy group in Korea right now. He wasn't expecting that kind of pressure as a newcomer.
"But don't worry, you won't be alone." Jessi confirmed, sneaking a glimpse at the worried one. "There should be four or more cameramen working along beside you. Now, they aren't from our company, so I'm hoping to expect the best work from all of you, do you understand?"
Everyone agreed in unison, Jungkook was the only one there that silently agreed, nodding his head nervously. It wasn't like he was upset at what he got, the pressure was just starting to get to him. It wasn't unlike Jessi to put her worker in an uncomfortable situation, however having that happen at Jungkook's first award show would definitely be a recipe for disaster.
