Chapter seven

The following morning Dhriti found her limbs tangled with Vikram's. His hand wrapped around her waist, holding it with an unknown grip that made her feel safe. His warm chest pressed against her cold back, providing with the warmth she didn't know she ached. She contemplated whether to stay in the safe haven of his hold or wake up from the bed. Her heart wanted her to stay; ravish the sensation until it lingered--while her brain screeched at her to get up and focus on the task she came for.

Deciding against her vulnerabilities, Dhriti unclasped his warm arm around her--disappointed at the lack of warmth. Praying her actions doesn't lead to waking him from his sleep, she slipped through the sheets and went to the door. Glancing at Vikram for the last time, she closed the door slowly and left for her room.

Dhriti, fully dressed, stepped out of her room and gasped when she found Vikram anxiously walking back and forth. She let out a cough to bring his attention towards her. His anxious steps halted when he heard her and stared. Dhriti stared back; taking in his appearance--his curly hair was wet, freshly showered, dressed in white plaid shirt and blue torn jeans, white sneakers and his phone tucked in his front jean pocket.

"Dhriti," the words drawled out, almost silently but she could hear him. Whispers were not new to her. She could hear faintest of faintest voices. "About last night . . ."

Dhriti heaved a sigh. "I'm sorry," he frowned, confusion filling his eyes. "I didn't know what to do, so I came to you, late at night. Hope I didn't disturb you, Vikram."

"Hey," he stepped closer to her, their faces inches apart and Dhriti could properly see his beautiful hazel eyes, which are now brimmed with the mixture of affection and pity. "I'm glad you came to me last night, Dhriti. I wasn't talking about you, invading my sleep; I wanted to know how you are right now. By the time I woke up, you already left."

She didn't say anything. She nodded her head, tucking the hair stand behind her ear, her eyes glancing away from his soft yet intense gaze. "Let's go eat, I'm hungry."

Staring at her for a few more seconds, he reluctantly stepped away from her, while she looked up. He nods his head at her and motions her to follow him to the elevator.

As they both get into the elevator, Vikram presses the ground floor button as he recalls reading the map to the restaurant, displayed beside the elevator on the ground floor. They stay silent in the elevator; thoughts running through their minds.

Reaching the ground floor, both of them made it outside the elevator, while Dhriti followed Vikram's way to the restaurant. Settling in the table beside the glass window, the view of freshly mowed grass, bonsai plants on each corner and the glistening of the morning sun in the pool met their eyes. Dhriti ordered crepes and coffee, while Vikram settled on egg toast with watermelon juice.
