Chapter 1 | "I'm Luffy. And she's Scar."

Zoro is not one to easily trust people.

He learned that lesson after a couple of years of bounty hunting out in the blue sea.

If someone were to ask him what he thought of his companions, he would say without any hesitation that he wholly didn't trust that orange-haired witch. And while Luffy may have gained his trust and respect, he could not say the same to the hooded girl, who Luffy had introduced as 'Scar'.

Zoro still remembered the first time he saw her and Luffy.

He had been carefully watching the marine brat saunter away from the pole he's tied to, when he realized that the straw-hatted boy was now standing a few feets in front of him.

But he was not alone.

Standing behind him was someone of a feminine stature — which was the only reason why he had assumed that she's a woman. She wore on a simple white blouse with a black vest over it, paired with plain black pants and boots. Her black and white monotone clashed against the bright colours her companion had on. Honestly, had it not for the black hood and mask covering her features, he wouldn't have looked twice over the simple outfit. From underneath the shadows, he could make out a pair of dark maroon orbs blinking lazily at him.

But that's not the only thing that caught his attention. Zoro cautiously eyed the huge, black blade on the woman's back. It's almost as wide as her torso and he swore that he saw it gleam red for a moment.

"You still haven't left, huh?" Zoro remarked to the boy, though his gaze kept on straying towards the mysterious figure, "You should leave before he tells his dad about you."

The kid remained nonchalant at the warning, and even boldly stated, "I'm looking for someone to join my pirate crew."

"A pirate? What, did you decide to give up on life and become a crook instead?" Zoro mocked.

"It's my dream, actually! There's nothing wrong with being a pirate!" The boy defended.

Zoro grinned in amusement, "Don't tell me you're going to set me free and force me to join you."

"I haven't decided yet." He admitted, "Everyone seems to think that you're a bad guy."

And the rest had been a blur for him, really.

Zoro only remembered eating the stomped onigiri before the two left without a trace.

The second time they came, they gave him their names.

"I'm Luffy," Luffy introduced himself before pointing to the hooded woman, "And she's Scar."

Zoro narrowed his eyes at them, "You again? I told you, I don't wanna be a pirate!" He growled, though Luffy just continued on as though he hadn't heard him, "If I loosen up the ropes, then you're gonna join me, okay?"

Zoro felt his scowl deepen, "I told you already, I have other things to do! Besides, I'm not gonna be a bad guy like a pirate!"

Luffy, the bastard, had the gall to pout at him. "But the everyone already thinks you're a bad guy!" He whined.

"I don't care what they say about me. I haven't done one thing that I regretted in the past, and it'll be the same for the future." Zoro vowed, "I will not become a pirate!!"

At his statement, Luffy stared at him in silence, and for a moment, Zoro almost thought that he had actually gotten through his thick skull. But then Luffy crossed his arms petulantly and huffed, "Well, I don't care! You're going to join me no matter what!!"

Zoro saw Scar let out a breath of exasperation before meeting his eyes and shrugging her shoulders, as though telling him that there's no use in refusing.

And that was that.

Ever since that moment, Zoro hadn't really interacted with her much, and she also didn't do so much as look at him. Though for an unknown reason, she'd sometimes focus on Luffy when things get particularly rough, only to not do anything.

Weeks of travelling together and he didn't hear her mutter out even a tiny, little peep. Zoro was actually beginning to think that the woman was actually weak and that the sword was just all for show until he saw her slice through a stray cannonball coming her way. No weak swordsman could've moved with that amount of grace.

Hence with little to none interaction with her and added to the fact that she didn't do anything remotely helpful when they were fighting that clown guy despite obviously capable enough to join in, it is only natural for him to feel apprehensive around her.

And knowing how his captain is, who knows what kind of shady place he had picked her up from.

So that's why, on one night — the day right before the Black Cats Pirates were scheduled to go down and destroy the village — when he was unusually awake and picked up light footsteps coming from the other boat, Zoro forced his muscle to relax and stay still. He silently counted to thirty before opening his eyes. He sat up, a hand already on the hilt of his sword as he looked around.

One, two, and

Someone is missing.

Zoro whipped his head towards the shore and immediately zoned on a figure that was moving further and further away. Standing up, Zoro quickly trailed after Scar, careful to keep a moderate distance from her as they walked deeper into the forest. The green-haired man didn't know how long he's been following the woman but finally, they reached a clearing where a figure stood. Though far away, Zoro see clearly who the man is.

Klahadore– No, he's Captain Kuro of The Black Cat Pirates. The very man who they were supposed to be fighting tomorrow.

Zoro felt his eyes widen as Scar sat down across from the man and quickly turned around. As much as he would like to challenge them now, he needed to go back and tell the others about a potential spy.

He traced back his steps and turned some corners.

Left. Right. Right. Left. Left. Right.

And then, he stopped.

"Ah." Zoro said aloud. He looked around and scratched his head, "Where am I?"

Zoro: "She is suspicious."
Luffy: "Yeah, that fine."
Zoro: "I never heard her talk."
Luffy: *Arms behind his head* "Yeah, that fine."
Zoro: "She suspiciously went away at night!"
Luffy: *Picking his ear* "Yeah, that's fine."
Zoro: *Aggravated* "SHE SUSPICIOUSLY MET UP WITH THAT BUTLER PIRATE!!!"
Luffy: *Picking his nose* "Yeah, that's fine."

Yes, it's a bit short for a prologue. No, you didn't skip a chapter, and no, I didn't forget to post something else before the prologue.

Honestly, I couldn't come up of a better way to start this fanfiction, and I just wanted to get the show on the road.

So what better way to start things up with Zoro's paranoid mind going overdrive? :D

Next Chapter: "Accompany me."
