Spring, 1417. a little south of Eastbourne

"nina? dear? are you out here?"
"yes mother!"

2 women walked out into the backyard. one with blonde hair wearing a simple long sleeved baby blue and white dress, and the other with short black hair wearing a similar dress but in a purple.

"hello moms" nina greets as she stands up from her seat in the garden.
"hello darling, we just came to tell you we are heading out for a little bit. out to meet some old friends. don't wait up for us, if you need anything, anything at all, go to our neighbour Jennifer."
nina nods in response, despite getting told the same information everytime they went out.

"we best be off, love you nina" carol calls out as the wave goodbye.

nina waves her moms goodbye, as they disappear back into the house. she hears the horse carriage gallop away from her house a few seconds later.

the Salazar-Roberts family were a middle class family that lived just on the outskirts of Eastbourne. The manor they lived in, was a few minute carriage ride from the town. made of stone and dark wood, the manor was perfect for the  family. a garden of various flowers running along the pathway up to the house. out in the backyard they had their vegetable garden, chicken coop and horse stables.

While they weren't nobles, they weren't poor either.
they had enough to eat every day without trouble but they couldn't go around spending money on god-knows- what.

Dana Salazar and Carol Roberts had been married 24 years prior, they were the towns 'it' couple. everyone believed that was what true loved looked like. 2 years into their marriage, they adopted their daughter, Nina Salazar Roberts.

Nina had been abandoned by her biological family when she was just 2 years old. the church had found her in an alleyway and had taken her in. Soon after Dana and Carol had adopted her and she became a salazar-roberts.

Dana and Carol love Nina with all their hearts. they showered her in affection and made her feel at home.

when they told her she was adopted, nina obviously took it hard. but than realized that she wouldn't want to be with anyone other than her moms.

with the love and affection from her mothers, ninas heart swelled with joy, she knew she was lucky to grow up in such a loving family. she would never give up her moms for anything in the world but she felt like something was missing.

nina wanted love.

romantic, deep, everlasting love.

but also painful and heart wrenching love.

the love that made you do stupid things for that person. the love that made you feel safe and warm. but also the love that could break every bit and piece of ones soul.

true love.

now she knew a prince wouldn't come galloping towards her on his horse taking her into the sunset.

but she never experienced the giddy feeling of wanting to be by that someone all the time. to care for someone, as much as they cared for you. that someone who admired your strengths and gifts, and looked past your faults and insecurities. encouraging the best and helping the other grow in any way they need.

her mother's always told her that she would find that someone one day, they believed everyone deserved to be loved. but they also told her to not dwell on dreams to much that you forget to live. but she still dreamed.

Nina made her way into her home, stopping by the kitchen to drop off the vegetables she picked from the garden. she cleans up around the house a bit before she is interrupted by a knock on her door.

"just a minute!" she calls out. she brushes her hands on her apron before slipping it off and walking towards the entrance.

"Nina!"
"hello gina, please come on in" nina smiles at her friend.

the two ladies sit themselves in the parlour. straightening out their skirts. nina wearing a simple white dress with burgundy accents, ruffles by her arms and ties at the shoulders. hair pulled back into a simple low ponytail.

gina wearing a pink dress with a white apron tied in front, curly dark hair tied into a bun. picnic basket in hand.

"how are you gina?" nina asks as she pours tea into a cup, offering it to the girl.
gina nods in thank you, "i'm well, where are your mothers? my mom wanted me to drop off some plums to you" she lifts her basket just a bit.

when nina was 5, a new family had moved in on their street, a little farther down. her mothers had told her they had a little girl. the same day nina had made cookies, and introduced herself to the Porter family.

she and gina became fast friends, while their moms did too.

ever since than, the two girls were best friends. growing up they never spilt apart and did everything together. through the years they made a small group and they were soon the tight knit friend group of Eastbourne.

"oh, they are out at the moment, but i will be sure to tell them you brought them. please say thank you to your mother" nina excuses herself as she goes into the kitchen to put them away.

gina follows behind her.
"have you really forgotten what today is?"
nina looks at her confused.

"nina! today we said we would help set up the spring festival for tomorrow!"
"oh right! i completely forgot!"
gina laughs at her friend, as she watches her scramble around.

"are we late?" nina asks as she packs up a basket.
"not yet, i knew you forgot so i came earlier than needed. we still have time"
"thank you gina"

"of course! let's go!"
